Long shot – any chance of an upgrade?

I'm on VS72 from MCO to GLA on 18 July 2015. It was booked by Mrs Fuzzy via Virgin Holidays so we’re in fare bucket V (non-upgradable). I've phoned both VS and VH to get an upgrade from Economy to Premium and these are my options

1 Pay VH £1800 (there’s 5 of us, so that’s £300 each which is pretty much the difference in fare)

2 VS say I can pay VH an unspecified amount to change our fare bucket (any ideas how much?), they can then upgrade 3 of us to UC using my miles, that’s all the availability they have, they can’t upgrade us to PE.

Will there be more availability at a later date? While tempted by UC it would be a bit of a pain to split my party (2 adults, 3 kids) and there’s no Clubhouse at MCO.

So any ideas?

Tough one.
I cannot see the availability getting higher on that particular route but you never know.
The DL SkyLounge at MCO is not great either TBH - Its large but the facilities are typical US lounge. It's no CH by a country mile.
The worst part is the split your have. Someone is not going to be happy and will the kids that get in to UC make the most of it or will they just get a really nice bed??

You always have to ask yourself "What else could I get with that £1800".....

The UC cabin only has 14 seats in total so for 5 of them to be available as Gs would be surprising.

It's not out of the question though, and if you were to take the 3 available now you may find they'll let you have 2 more at check in if the seats are still unsold.

If you're an Expertflyer member you could do a load check to see how many UC seats are free.

Yes, this is what happens when Mrs Fuzzy just goes ahead and books things without consulting myself... v( :o)

I thought it was a long shot, I was really surprised when they said 3 UC were available and I know we've got no chance at 5 UC.

£1800 is a couple of weeks in a theme park paid for, think I'll sit tight and just keep an eye on things. Trying to save the miles as I need to book a reward flight in May using them.

Thanks for the advice y)
