Hi, looking to book my seats for the summer holidays, out Heathrow to Washington DC and back Barbados to Gatwick. Plane is a330. We want 4 seats in UC, all adults. It would be nice to sit opposite each other but I've heard bad things about the length of the middle seats when in bed mode. My daughter and I would be in these seats, I'm 5ft1 and she's 5ft4. Would I be correct in presuming that because we're short arses the reduced seat length wouldn't be a problem or are they REALLY short. Thanks.

You really are best having four seats in A or K.
I've done it numerous times with 4 of us and although we are all tall and slim I couldn't imagine sitting in the middle section which is 5 inches shorter even if I were more vertically challenged.
You won't 'see' much of each other sitting side by side, and actually the configuration (for me) lends itself better for you to be all in a line and you can hang your head over the partition. You certainly can't chat easily across the aisle.

No overhead bins, lack of room, feels very cramped and lacks air con

I tried a few different seats out on a very empty flight back from boston last year and the Middle rows are noticeably shorter , stick to the As or K's as marshy suggested

...And I pretty much have to be oiled up just to get in an A or K. Heaven knows what the middles are like.
Has VS ditched 747s to BGI now then as I keep seeing the 330 on this route? Great shame if so, walking down/up the steps of one of those beasts always impresses me.

We flew back from NY last month and I was in one of the inside seats. I'm 5'4" if I stretch up enough and managed, just. But I wouldn't choose those seats if I could avoid them, go for A or K.

Thanks for your help. I've booked 3,4,5,6k on the Barbados flight as it's an overnight so the extra bed length will be important but 4a&d and 5a&d on the Washington flight as it's a daytime flight so am not planning on using the beds at all.

Not all about length, no overhead storage and I think you don't get the air con in the middle...
