DL recognition of VS Au

Is this just an American thing?

For the last few months, every time I've boarded a DL flight the gate agent has said something along the lines of, "We thank you for your VS Gold status."

The last time I flew DL BusinessElite (a month ago maybe, ex-JFK to LHR), I'd ordered a gluten free meal, but I'd stuffed my face in the VS CH and once on board apologized profusely for not being able to eat the in-flight meal.

The flight attendant said, with a big smile, "It really doesn't matter sir, you're Virgin Gold: you can do whatever you like!"

I'm writing this from onboard a DL flight right now and - yet again - my VS Au status was mentioned.

I actually prefer it NOT being mentioned, but it is odd when the partner airline mentions it more than the lead airline!

I have noticed on board recognition on VS has been much more prevalent recently.

I wonder if that's something that's been pushed by DL since the tie-up?

Flown many DL segments in all cabins since attaining Au and haven't been mentioned! Maybe YMMV

The first tangible benefit I'll get is free EC seats for my family this holiday season. The 3 tier points per F leg is good enough for me.

The Economy Comfort benefit for VS Au is really interesting when it comes to TATL flights on DL metal.

If you're Au and going to travel in economy, choosing DL (as long as you avoid the new very lowest E bucket after Feb, 2015) means you'd get half price upgrades to Economy Comfort.

In GBP terms it means VS Au holders can upgrade their economy tickets to 'Economy Comfort' for around £30-£50 per segment for, say, LHR-JFK.

DL EC is not VS PE, but it is significantly better product than standard Economy for the price.

a bit astray from topic, but has anyone experience of doing miles upgrades as AU when booked EC on a VS flight on DL metal?

i'm wondering is it likely (assuming availability) or so rare as to be the stuff of legends

I didn't think you could do miles upgrades using VS miles on DL metal. Only full redemptions.
