Welcome to v-flyer.
If you put your itinerary in the itinerary section here you might possibly find someone on the same flight offering to guest you in.
FWIW I find it a bit presumptuous that a first time poster here requests a CH invite ( there were a spate of similar posts and subsequent threads a couple of years ago , which debated this at length). That's my personal opinion ,and others will have ( and did have back then) differing views.
I don't know what you mean about having the miles to cover the cost of the invite ( and see you have made a similar offer over on FT) ?

Thanks for chiming in with your opinion, but I dont follow your line of thought for a new user asking for an invite being presumptuous. If you don't ask you don't get and of course if someone were to go out if their way to help a stranger I would naturally give something back to them for their time and effort by getting them something from duty free.

I suppose some people are more naturally giving than others, I know certainly if I were in upper and a stranger asked for an invite I would not hesitate to help them.

At what point would you deem it acceptable for a new user to ask for an invite? 5 posts, 10 posts, 100 posts? or is it not so easily quantifiable?

Also I was under the impression the invite costs 10k miles?

Couldn't agree more DL! I actually find things like this very cheeky and rude. People expecting to join a forum and automatically going to get an invite to a CH, without even contributing to said forum. :(!

Anyway, I'm not going to let this sort of thing annoy me as not long until my UC trip to Grenada :)

I'm a little bit of the opposite - I always post my clubhouse invite on here, but out of my 30 or so trips, I've only had one bite. Mainly because I only ever used to fly to Japan and back.

Alas, can't help the OP here.

Do everyone's posts have to be viewed by a moderator? I replied before the last 2 posts but it has still not appeared :(

Apologies if this is the wrong place but does the guest have to be on the same place as the other person?

Yep, never used to be the case but nowadays you can only guest in people on the same flight as you.

For people trying to get guested in its more of a waiting game and see if anyone offers and posts one, I understand both opinions but I'm more on the side of it's abit abrupt and rude. If you don't ask you don't get I guess.

Maybe should have posted as more of a general question about Clubhouse Access rather than asking outright on your first post and then never to be seen again. Pre Internet would people have waited outside a lounge hoping to be invited in?

The first 3 posts from any new member need to be approved before they appear on the open forum. This is used to minimise spam. The moderators will approve the messages when we see them and if acceptable, but no-one is glued to the screen waiting for messages to appear for approval.

Sorry if you found the responses hostile, dbassin, but understand that there's a reasonably long-established protocol about Clubhouse invites on V-Flyer although as a new member I appreciate you were not to know that.

The itinerary forum allows you to post your own travel plans. For those flyers who have a spare guest invitation, there's a checkbox on the posting form that allows them to offer it to another V-Flyer and that's denoted in the topic title with an [L] at the end (L for Lounge, since we don't all always fly Virgin Atlantic, so it may be any of the lounges).

So the procedure for flyers hoping to be 'guested' into a lounge is to see if anyone is flying the same day from the same airport and has the [L] in their post title, then send them a PM to see if it's still available and their plans work out for you.

As Darren says, the posts not appearing immediately is a necessary step for your first few posts to stem the flow of spam getting onto the forum. As a reasonably popular forum site, we get targeted a lot so the moderating team spend a lot of time trashing unwanted content.

I wouldn't say it was hostile it's opinions, the thing that a vflyer may get annoyed at is that a new vflyer like yourself needs to earn respect and maybe use the forum more before coming out with that question. You've got to understand people pay lots of money to be in upper or earn the right to be AU, at the moment it's like handing that out to a random stranger, for example I wouldn't go to the main t3 terminal and go in the bars/restaurants and ask if somebody wanted to come in the lounge and at the moment that's what it's like with you. I hope you can use this forum effectively and I've used this for over a month now and asking the right questions is what it's all about.

Hi dbassin,

I don't think that the replies above are hostile at all, I only ever fly Y or PE but would never dream of asking for a CH invite even after being a member of vflyer for 4 years. By asking this in a first post it makes it look like it's the only reason that you've joined the forum.

The majority of the regular posters on here are fortunate enough to be able to travel UC regularly. They are able to provide a wealth of knowledge to the rest of us when it comes to all things VS and I am looking forward to the end of next year, when I will finally have earnt enough miles to hopefully grab a couple of G's to the U.S. and experience the clubhouse myself at long last!

I understand that sometimes if you don't ask you don't get, but by being like this you need to accept that you'll often encounter a mix of reactions.

I think that is a little pot/kettle.

Why don't you post your itinerary and keep an eye on those posted for the same time.

If you are guested into the CH you don't need to contribute miles/payment as the UC pax is allowed to guest in one person travelling on the same flight.

Echo the above - don't think it was Hostile at all. I did check out your FT post though and found a funny thread about PAX moving from Business to Coach on American to stretch their legs, reminded me to do my best NEVER to fly on States Metal! So thanks for that! Have a good flight.

Im flying PE out on VS005 as no UC reward seats available, flying UC on VS006 on the way back. Perhaps its just my nature but if a stranger asked me for a clubhouse invite I would happily oblige, just seems everyone wants to give their 2 cents on a topic barely worth discussing.

I appreciate that the OP started the post with "forgive me if I've posted in the wrong location" and ended with "I can compensate with miles"

I, for one, would feel apprehensive going forward if the first few replies to what I thought was a very tactful way to handle an often heated question made me feel isolated and defensive.

Welcome to V-Flyer! I think the fact that you've found your way here demonstrates what great contributions everyone here can bring to the VS flying community.

I've seen posts looking for clubhouse invites and offering nothing, or offering "looks and smiles" which I find somewhat more shallow than your request. Seems that thread got more cheerful replies IIRC. Such is the internet sometimes.

I've also tried to post up every time I have a spare invite, so as was said check the Itineraries forum regularly!

Finally, VS can and do, although seemingly rarely, sell lounge access on the day of. Availability pending, and with DL elites in there too now, it might be a long shot. But for the price id value the 10k miles you were willing to give away as more valuable!

Perhaps I should have also mentioned I am negotiable on trading something from duty free for the invite also. Alas appears no one here is on VS005 on the 9th anyhow

To be honest I don't think anyone on here would expect or request anything in exchange for an invite, I've certainly invited a few people in the past without any expectation of something in return.

Just my opinion but I think you could maybe have introduced yourself and made a couple of posts prior to going for a lounge invite, but if I were flying that day on that flight it would not stop me extending you an invite, hope you manage to get in.

Welcome dbassin. But oh dear, you have asked the one question that tends to be a bit contentious on this forum. You may have noticed. Rather like asking what people think of children on planes over on FT.

Anyway, I wish you luck in your quest (I personally have no issue with your chutzpah, given my office is awash with people asking me for large bonuses right now!). However I'd definitely not try to compound your 'felony' by attempting to bribe anyone with a bottle of scotch, and if all else fails and the CH isn't busy, they have been known to sell access on the door for £60. Just make sure you are well dressed. A cravat and monocle will probably be a step in the right direction there.
