V-Flyer

Hi everyone

I'm travelling on Christmas Eve and have been toying with the idea of getting a small gift for the crew. Reasons: it's Christmas and I'm feeling generous, plus, the fact that they are working my flight means they'll be away from their own families for Christmas Day.

So, I understand that food i.e. chocolates might not be the best idea; not everyone eats them and they might have a policy not to eat food items from strangers, so I was debating printing some Amazon gift cards. What do you think?

I'm flying Upper (yay) so does anyone know how many staff would normally serve the cabin on Airbus 340-600? I don't want to leave anyone out but the number would determine whether it's a £5 gift card or a £10 gift card!

I cant answer how many but what about a lucky dip lottery ticket each. You can put them in Christmas cards.
Then of course you fill out all the lucky dip numbers and buy a duplicate set for yourself. That way if someone wins a couple of million they share it with you and you can buy more Upper class Christmas flights and give out more presents.

I'd be more inclined to go for the chocolates myself

I can answer this. Today I gave some Japanese chocolates to the crew that I bought in a store.mthey were very appreciative and enjoyed them

I nearly always give the CC chocolates, Xmas or not.

Amazon gift cards are a generous move if you do go ahead with that

I think it will be a toss up between the gift cards and a lottery ticket. At least with the gift card they are more or less guaranteed to benefit.

That's such a kind thought. There are 13 crew on the 600. Hope you have a great flight.

What a generous thought. I think choccies or similar would go down well, and all the CC can share them too.

choccies or biccies yes - you can buy them in duty free so they can see they are still sealed.

Would be very loath to give money of any sort - whether gift vouchers or lottery tickets.

Oh and what about the pilots? They will be missing time with their families too!

Hotel Chocolat products have always appeared to be appreciated; handed over to the FSM during his/her walk around, on condition of anonymity.

The last bit has never worked.

I think I have three options:

1. Amazon gift card - recipient is almost guaranteed to benefit from this.

2. Lottery ticket or scratch card - a bit of excitement and fun; someone could benefit hugely...might there be any policy to prevent them accepting such a gift?

3. Chocolates - perhaps a bit predictable? May not hit the spot for everyone.

When I was travelling and using hotels around this time of year I would buy the big tins something like Cadburys Roses (yes, I know they are not Hotel Chocolat, but I know where the latter are made and it takes some of the shine off ). Eminently shareable. Not sure whether you can get them in Duty Free though....

I think some chocolates for the CC to share is a very nice idea.

Might try that on my next flight too.

Maybe a box of Lindt from Duty Free?

I think it's down to whether you want to give a little something to just the crew in the cabin you're travelling in or something that can be shared amongst all the crew. However predictable chocolates may be the crew will appreciate anything you do that shows appreciation. Let us know what you decide

Given the amount of people that forget that the cabin crew are human beings and treat them as their servant for the flight any gift will not be under appreciated.

Of all the flights I have taken, bar one, I am the only person that has given a box or tin of choccies to the CC - that one exception there was another v-flyer aboard. It shows that we appear to be a generous bunch

They don't unfortunately, easy enough to get them through security though. I go for quality street... and have bought in bulk

Crew are always happy with chocolates!

Or biscuits to drink with tea and coffee.

Amazon cards may not be used by everyone... So I would say maybe a boots voucher or similar for high street store.

But to make it easier so everyone is included chocolates are great.

If your going vouchers what about John Lewis you can then use them at JL or at Waitrose.

I think it's really nice that you give us a thought so trust me anything you got would be appreciated.
I reckon as DeclanSmith mentioned, a nice tub of biscuits as I Know I get through quite a bit of tea/coffee and there's nothing better than a brew and a biscuit to get you through a night flight, or any flight.

I always try and give the Crew a box of Lindt Lindor Balls to share. I usually give it the the Crew member working my section of the plane when they take my post take off drinks order before they get too busy with the rest of the service. They always seem to go down well, I have had many Crew come and find me or say thanks as I'm getting off the Plane.
