Booking hotel on VS Website cheaper than hotel only via VH

I am looking to book hotel only for Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada as we have already booked our flights using miles. Having paid attention to the price for the past month we were gutted to see it increase by £2000 on the Virgin Holidays website under hotel only.

Then I happened to check on the Virgin Atlantic website to book the same hotel and same rooms for our dates and it is coming out at a much better price (£2000 less than the VH quote). It says that 'Book a Hotel' on the VS site is 'powered by Virgin Holidays' so I am a little suspicious, confused but delighted at this. Any answers?

Thank you in advance

hotel pricing can be even more random than flight pricing

couple of years ago we got a week in the RAK hilton for around 150 quid on VH (used miles for UC flights via VS), and were upgraded on check-in based on hhonors status

it's a nonsense rate, but these things pop up every so often, grab them while you can!

for caribbean i found the main benefit of booking VH was check-in chill-out, but i think they dropped that now

Yes very variable.

Few years ago I saw a hotel on VH and looked to find it cheaper on the VS.

I then saw the same hotel on the VS site but with 'The' in front of the name and that was cheaper still.

Lookin at it the biggest drawback is that from the VS site you have to pay the full amount at time of booking, rather than just the deposit as with VH.

Check-in-Chill out always worked a dream for us...sad to see it go!

Agree with tonybear had some great deals with VH but other times had better elsewhere at the time of bookings. My recent booking ended up with travelbag as they were £300 cheaper for the same hotel and room than anyone else.

Always good to look around y)

It also seems to be benificial ringing up and speaking to someone at VH. We rang up this morning and mentioned that we are loyal customers, using VH pretty much every year for the past 10years and managed to get £1200 off from the website quote. It seems to pay to not be lazy when booking!

dont forget red/silver members get 7% off - also you can convert 10k miles to £50 VH voucher if you feel the need.

Also, sometimes its worth trying a different browser or computer as your cookies could give them the knowledge your looking at the hotel so they are milking it!

That discount only applies to packages and not to hotel only bookings.

B*gger! I've got a hotel-only booking with VH for May (but you probably could not add the discount retrospectively even if it was package). Still, can't complain, got 18 nights in the same MCO hotel as last year for only £110 more than 14 nights cost last year, so all in all a pretty good deal.

I did look on the "Book a hotel" link on the VS website - out of interest - and found the selection to be very limited, nothing like that available via VH.

Oh well, 120 something days to Orlando. Bring it on!

I would generally compare the two but a lot of others also and would generally find that vs website rather than vh website is cheaper but this year found another competitor for flights website to be cheaper for hotel only option by a large amount. I have noticed that vs and vh have reduced the availability of hotels in mco specifically since they have changed their supplier of this and it is meaning that I will be taking my separate hotel booking elsewhere which is a shame.
