Dilemma

Just noticed on my flying club account an entry of 6523 and 2130 silver member miles for a discounted upper ticket for my trip on the 22nd Dec.

Since I was on a reward ticket I should have not received any miles. They were having problems at the desk in issuing my ticket though.

However since I had a more than less worst experience of upper on my Outwood flight should I inform VS of their error or do the honorable thing and say stuff it and not say a thing. What would you do?

I would treat VS as you would hope they would treat you ie inform them of their error.

I think oldboy is right ,these things have a habit of coming back to bite you on the backside sometimes and who knows, they may let you keep them for your honesty :o)

I'd tell them but most likely they'll just let you keep them anyway

you say "discounted upper ticket ", which suggests you paid money for the fare (plus surcharges/taxes), so that would still earn you FC miles

If this was a straight reward then you shouldn't have got any miles or TPs

But if you started as a paid Y or PE ticket and then upgraded using miles you would still get the miles and TPs for the Y or PE element (mind you usually have to call them up because the IT system can't deal with such complications)

No tontybear I was on a T type ticket miles only and upgraded to G at the airport so should not have received any miles at all for my fare but I know they had great difficulty issuing the ticket at the airport

It is indeed a dilemma. Should you be honest or not? I suspect if you say nothing you would "get away with it" and keep them. How will you feel when you then "spend" them? Guilty or delighted you got a freebie?

If you 'fess up, they may remove them from your account, or let you keep them as a goodwill gesture.

Whatever you do, VS will be unaffected either way. The cost to them is miniscule, if anything.

What I or others would do in this situation should not affect your decision, as it is you who has to live with it. If we all say "go on, keep them jfenney" will you then feel more comfortable with us condoning your (potential) decision to keep the miles?

Sorry, that sounds all very preachy! I think this is definitely a case for the panel of The Moral Maze ;)

You could be completely honest and say that you've thought long and hard about this, so much so that you voiced your concerns on the public VS discussion forum, v-flyer, where the consensus was that you should let VS know.

I think that would show goodwill...and it will also intimate that you might report back to v-flyer on the outcome! ):
