Hi fellow travellers, I've just got of the phone with flying club and found something out I never knew or even read here!!!
I'm trying to get rid of our miles so a trip to nyc in sept is the easiest way. There's reward availability on the flights to and from the uk for both me and Simon.
Simon has enough miles for a full UC reward upgrade (yes I hear your groans) and I have enough for a m class upgrade to UC.
What I couldn't do was book an M class ticket as i was one day short of a week and it didn't involve a sat night stay, so it was a full fare Y or nothing!!!
So it looks like I'll have to do an extra night in nyc if I want that M class ticket!!!

Hmmm.... I've had something similar recently booking a trip to EWR for business through corporate travel. Have ended up stuck with H fare and can see Gs for my dates which is rather annoying

The Saturday night stay is still a pretty standard requirement if you want the cheapest tickets (even upgradable ones).

Why not buy the additional miles rather than pay for the ticket?

I looked into all options and the easiest was just staying an extra day. It would have been £500 for the miles then the taxes on top would have made it the same cost as the M.
I'd rather another day in nyc.
All booked now...flying out on the Vs01 (789) back on the Vs10 (747)...they best not change the plane!!!

I dont think buy miles, I think, spend for miles.....can you spend and gain miles....depends on how many short you are of course....

Ah yes ,I had forgotten you are going there in March , Washington as well isn't it ?

Thanks for sharing that one. Although Mrs D has her own 28 day rule which means out and in flights must be at least 28 days apart.
However, I'm sure if I tried to organise a Christmas shopping trip to NY she might break it.

You're right, plus a 1 night stay at the tropicana in Atlantic city...for the pricey sum of £30!

you can stay less than 7 nights on an M to a G fare ,it's the sat night that must be included , I've done a few trips to nyc for 3/4 nights but including the sat on M to G's

Thanks for the clarification, even now I still manage to get confused! Simon has no clue how complicated these things are!!!

I went last year for the first time. Vegas it ain't!

4 or 5 of the big boardwalk hotels have closed in the past 4 months - sadly the place is becoming very run down and feels close to collapse altogether.

Most of the clientele when I was there (admittedly in the winter, so very off peak) seemed to be groups of "ladies of a certain age" on Greyhound day trips from New York, lapping up the free slot credit vouchers.

Sorry Darren, not new.... Saturday night stays have always been corner post to reduced fares... if you can stay a Saturday the fare classes available to ya open dramatically

V-Flyer (and my) credo is typically if you're happy with the price then book it!!

We had an extra day to kill due to our flight being canceled and moved to the following day, I'm under no illusion it's going to be Vegas on the coast! Not for £30.
