Upgrade voucher question - expiry date

I have recently got the black virgin card
I expect to spend about £10k on it and thus trigger 2 upgrade vouchers.
I understand that these appear on the anniversary of my account opening.
So my question is, once these appear in my account, how long do i have to spend them before they expire?
what I would like is to get the vouchers next december. Sit on them until august 2016 and then use them for flights in July 2017.
Would this work?

Yes that would be fine. You have to have 'spent' them from your account within one year of receiving them.

you get the vouchers on the anniversary of your card & have another 12 months to book your flight
If your annv. date is January 2015, then you will receive your voucher for Jan 2016 & will need to have booked a flight by Jan2017. You can book in advance, so August 2017 should be fine.

Another question: are they transferable?
I've got one I'm unlikely to use so is it possible to gift it to a friend (also a FC member who'd use his own miles to book)?

No, not at all:
The miles used must come from the account of the person who receives the voucher. It is stated in the T&c's
You can you use miles from your account and the voucher and book the flight is another persons name however. So your friend could transfer his miles in to your account and you make the booking for him, of course, you would have to factor in if the associated cost was worth it.

As I suspected, thank you.
