Think the wife will not be happy with me

We are going to SA this christmas for the cricket and I have managed to bag the one available reward seat that has come available. Just happens to be upper!!

Just hoping now that more rewards get made available and will keep checking to try and get her bumped up eventually.

What are other peoples experiences of taking rewards as and when they become available and if I had to change to make sure we are on the same flight what is the amendment fee, is it £25-£30?

Cheers

The change fee comes from what your original fare code is. Are you on an M round trip upgraded with miles? If so it is a £100pp change fee.

just re-read my email...

Changes Charge gbp 25.00/usd 50.00.
Cancellations Before departure charge gbp 30.00/usd 50.00 for cancel.

Happy with that to take the risk on UC on the new 787 :)

But it will be a miles flight, got a fair few to burn :)

Aah

So its you pinching my G's for December is it :o) ...I presume you are looking to go to JNB?

Seriously though, well done on what you have bagged so far.

The lack of G's in November and December for LHR-JNB-LHR is a lot lower than in previous years. It might be due to the introduction of the 787 Dreamliner on this route from October...VS might be wanting to see the revenue uptake on the new metal.

For the last few years I have had an easy time in bagging return G's for my April/May and Nov/Dec trips.

I check every morning and it seems that December is showing a G first thing in the morning for the latest booking day , then it disappears.
Unfortunately, the dates aren't what I want. v(

I'll keep trying.

Good luck with you search also ... looks like we have a race between us! :P
I think the change fee for a full reward booking is £25 per person per sector.

Hope this helps

Paul

Good luck with your hunt as well, I think the change of plane has reduced the number of Gs also the removal of the cape town flight has possibly impacted things as well.

You never know I may be forced to drop into PE and my UC G could be come available again... Hopefully not the case :)

Having pretty much the same issue on LAX flights ... Got the G's for the way out but only one on the way back ... Flying out 23rd Jan and back 7th Feb. Looking every day for a second one but proving very difficult at the moment ... Still hopeful though !

Quick question I have got on the back of this, speaking to the wife at lunch she may take a bit of winning round on the one ticket in UC scenario.

If 2 PE rewards became available could I go for those for my wife and I whilst keeping my UC reservation? This way I could keep checking for a UC reward to become available and if it doesnt I could cancel my UC reward as per my terms and sit with the wife on the flight.

Any rules around this?

Good idea, nothing to stop you except a cancellation fee per the T's n C's .... £30 per cancellation and only 75% miles refunded....maybe a costly gamble?

I thought it was 100% of miles refunded if greater than 24 hours/7 days depending on what the rule of the day is!!

Also are you allowed to cancel just one of the seats. I.e on booking 2 if i manage to upgrade the wifes ticket am I allowed to just cancel my PE seat on that second booking?

Per the T's n C's on a mileage dummy booking:

Mods, please delete if I'm out of order posting a direct quote from the VS website.

"Cancellations before departure charge GBP 30.00/usd 50.00 for cancel.
NOTE - Miles will not be refunded in the event of no-show. Waiver - for death of pax or immediate family member as evidenced by a death certificate keep the original fare and rebook as required. 75 percent of miles will be credited for cancellations made at least 7 days prior to departure of the outbound flight. For cancellations within 7 days of departure no miles will be refunded and no fee will be charged. Refunds are not permitted outside the period of validity of the ticket in accordance with iata general conditions of carriage after departure ticket is non-refundable in case of no-show.

interestingly the site Ts n Cs say the following...

"6.1.4 Once reward tickets are issued, you may amend your travel date, route or class of service prior to travel for an amendment fee of £25 for changes to international flights originating in the UK, US$50 for changes to international flights originating in the US or local currency equivalent of US$50 for changes to flights originating in any other region. Changes to domestic flights within the UK can be made for an amendment fee of £15. Once tickets for a Reward Booking are issued, no name changes are allowed. If for any reason a flight reward is cancelled outside 24 hours of departure, 100% of the Miles will be re-credited to the Flying Co account."

Pmramsay, you have quoted a flyingco terms and conditions not flying club.

However, you are still correct, flying club term 4.2.1 is the relevant one in this case. It was recently changed, and now 100% of miles are credited if cancelled 7 days before departure for a £30 fee.

If you're asking if you can be listed for two separate seats on one flight ( one for you in PE and one for you in UC) I don't think it was possible ( one booking would be cancelled) ?.
I may however be talking rubbish as I'm in holiday countdown mode... :) .

thats what i am trying to figure out if it is possible. No reason there couldnt be two people with my name in my family using my flying club account to book the seats, in fact i do share my name with my dad :)

However it wouldnt be good if I was breaking any rules around this risking losing the flights. I cant see anything that would prevent me so far. The PE booking would have a different booking ref so I would have thought that could be done.

Would be good to know if anyone has done anything similar

Also thanks Neil for the confirmation, i do see what cooperman is saying when you do a dummy booking, it is hidden away in the ts and cs there but i would have thought the site ts and cs would be what are important as they cover all reward bookings.

I don't know the answers to any of the aforementioned questions but I think it's a case of securing your upgrade first and foremost and then try and get the wife's , if it doesn't happen then what have you lost ? Not much as far as I can tell and if she is lucky you might be able to get her up to the bar for an hour or so

Oh Blacky,
Has my continued chastisement taught you nothing?? ?| When I saw the thread title I thought "uh uh - where's Blacky off to again ( alone) ): ): ?
The correct answer to all these troubles is to put Mrs pmramsay in the UC seat and start praying for the other seat to open up :D .
Mr DL ( over time) has learned the way to keeping me happy is to stick me in the comfy seat and accept defeat ( a divorce being way too expensive :D ).

What DL says! I cannot think why you never considered this unless you were looking for a quick way to the divorce court!
