V-Flyer

Hi there, I'm not sure if this is the right area to be asking this question, please forgive me if it's not, I'm new here!

Husband and I are travelling from Gatwick to Orlando in March and I'm wondering if I am able to take a battery pack in my carry-on bag or if it has to be packed? It's one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/15000mAh-Portab ... ttery+pack

I'm worried that the phones will run out of charge before we land and since we're going economy I don't think we'll have charging places.

Can't imagine that would be a problem, it's just another charger to go with your gadgets. Take the instructions with you just in case you're asked what it is, but I doubt you will be.

Tvery much doubt your phones would die on an 8 hour flight.

I took my iphone to Orlando and on the way out I was on it a lot listening to music and playing games, it's amazing just how much battery the connectivity to WiFi and 3/4G uses!!

I have one of these and take it with me on flights all the time. I've never been asked about it even when the in flight bag was searched.

Have something very similar and have just got back from the States with it in my hand luggage all the time (8 flights in total). Not asked about it once, so can't see you having a problem.

The last flight I went on my wife and I took variations of these, going through security in Manchester there were no issues with the battery pack like in that link however I had an iphone charging case which for some reason showed up on their scanner as a liquid.

She said it was a training issue and wouldn't normally have been a problem but she re-scanned it and let me on through. I guess they are becoming more common now.

I have a similar one and have only flown it once from China. I know that in China you must keep it with your carry-on (as opposed to checking it in) and there are some requirements about its capacity etc. I'm planning on taking it with me from LGW to GND on Monday (as have chartered a catamaran for a week so might need something to boost the cameras/phones) and will report back then...

Did you have to throw in the bit about the catamaran, I'm now exceedingly jealous!

I did It'll be the first time we are doing something crazy like this (actually I think cost-wise it'll work out cheaper than some hotels on Grenada, which is how I convinced the OH!). Will do a TR when we are back

Depends how old the phone is

As promised, I'm reporting back on travelling with the battery back recently to Grenada.

On the way out at LGW, no issue at all -- it went straight through in hand luggage with no question asked.

On the way back, my bag was selected for a search at security, and what the security chap was looking for was exactly the battery pack. Once I'd shown him what it was, there was no issues, but I guess it must've shown up as a peculiar item on the scanner.

We used it to charge a couple of cameras and phones on our trip, and were very impressed by how much power it held

just make sure it is charged & you can demonstrate it working.

On a side not - I thought all seats now had charging facilities?

Actually really easy for it to go dead. If you are using it for music or especially videos AND you use it as a phone before and after the flight, will be flat, no problem!


You can take the charger, no issues there, I do it every time I fly.
