No music on Vera?
Posted: 21 Jan 2015, 00:09Just flew VS46 JFK->LHR and Vera had no music available. Is that the new norm, or just this equipment (Tubular Belle)?

Oh I read it but I only tend to remember one person's TRs and that's because there is usually a disaster involved.

Posted: 21 Jan 2015, 12:32There's been an ongoing legal battle involving a company called IFP, which provides (i.e. licenses) the IFE content for many airlines, including VS: http://weareifp.com/
Specifically it involves Sony not receiving royalties from IFP's IFE product for their musical artists. Sony sued United a couple of years ago. Considering the massive cost for this kind of copyright litigation, I presume they did this as a 'warning shot' suit to force a settlement.
After that, Sony has started 'informing' (presumably quite sternly) other airlines who are IFP clients in order to get the airlines to do the litigating for them.
The argument is that it is up to IFP, not the airlines, to clear the royalty licenses. AA took the bait and has initiated legal proceedings against IFP.
My guess is that any airline using IFP at the moment has stopped using their music service altogether while IFP removes any Sony content from the musical side of their product, or until a settlement is made.
