RTW Tickets

Anybody know which Airline/Alliance I should buy a Round The World [RTW] ticket from?

I have a very simple routing:-

LHR-LAX-SYD-SIN-LHR possibly adding AKL if possible

All to be complete with a months leave from the office.

Comments from the forum would be most welcome

Thanks

Won't be a single airline to do that but an alliance so Skyteam, One World and Star Alliance

Does VS still do the Great Escapade?

Based on your destinations I would suggest OneWorld using a mix of BA, AA and Qantas

I knew VS offered a rtw trip and found this

Dates from 2009 though and a few things have changed since then (like the cancelling of SYD-HKG) and that price (£1,239) won't be valid now either!

OneWorld using BA & Qantas want £2665 for a standard Y fare in Nov 2015. Is this reasonable? Is there a more cost effective solution?

£2692 for the same route backwards ie travelling east first

No AA options were given on the website

You'd almost certainly be better off doing two open-jaws (if you don't mind two PNRs and less flexibility).

A quick look using Y flights one week apart in November 2015:

LHR-LAX-SYD (£1k on AA/Qantas)

SYD-SIN-LHR (£600 on Singapore Airlines)

[I just checked these Google Flights prices manually with the airline websites, and these fares are correct]

As a RTW related question I thought that I would resurrect this thread rather than start another.

To the OP - what did you end up booking?

The routing I have planned for a jaunt in November too is LHR-LAX-AKL-RAR-AKL-CHC, QZN-AKL-SIN-LHR.

VS do still offer the Great Escapade, do any here have experience of it? Any comments on its value?

Pricing my route up separately has yielded a price of about £1555 for Y covering it if booked through Expedia. Obviously if I can get a comparable price with VS, and have 29,000 miles travelled to play with, then I can add a few more stopovers to my trip.. I am having them quote it up now - could take up to 72hrs though 8-)

I have done RTW trips using Great Escapades on several occasions, last time though was probably 5 years ago, fares (Business/Upper) have always been excellent value, flights at that time were with Virgin, Air New Zealand & Singapore Airlines, this of course though wouldn't accommodate the the Sydney stop of the required trip.

The same itinerary works for Star Alliance as well using UA and SQ
