Lifetime Gold question

PostPosted: 25 Jan 2015, 18:25

I should qualify for lifetime gold in June and have calculated my TPs and think I'm 3 short, not a problem as I will be flying again before then.

However, I decided to email FC to ask them to double check that my calculations were correct and today received a response.

This is their reply.

We are unable to access all the account details relating to this qualification to be able to check this I'm afraid. It will be necessary that you will need to wait for a notification from our Marketing team, which you will receive when you have achieved the correct criteria.

Our marketing team run monthly reports and will notify you as or when you become eligible for this offer.

Not much help and am I expecting too much for them to confirm my calculations as I wouldn't want to miss out for the sake of a couple of TPs.

Thanks
Jilly

What odd language is used in their reply. Rather like what is often used in a Scam ! This is a genuine reply is it ?!

Good luck with getting an answer in the future ! And congratulations on being on the cusp of such a prestigious award . oo)

I agree, definitely strange language but it is genuine as the email gives links to their website and the name of a contact in the customer services team.

Think I will try calling FC tomorrow to see if I can get any further help.

Maybe they just can't confirm via email. Most companies require you to provide certainly security answers before they are able to access and discuss matters.

I imagine a call should clarify this and your initial query.

I was just about to type what Neil has written. Also, I find it odd that this would be something for the marketing team to handle, what's the marketing angle for someone reaching lifetime gold? Just saying.

Congratulation BTW to the OP, hard earned no doubt.

I remember when my 60TP CH passes went missing in the post, it was the Marketing department who had to deal with it and sort everything out.

And they don't pick up the phone. Everything was communicated back-and-forth via FC CS.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Was just so surprised that the email wasn't passed onto someone who could help even if they couldn't.

I can understand that the initial promotion would be dealt through marketing but not the administration.

Will definitely be calling and will update.

Thanks again

Are you doing it on the basis of ten years FC Au plus 300 TPs? Or are you on a million miles? I certainly do know that the FC team can get the data on both but I also know that at VS the marketing team handle lifetime Au notifications.

I suspect the email is just an odd way of saying that that's what happens. Oh and congratulations y) .

Is the million miles method independent of the 10 years + 300Tp of FC Au method? If you fly a million VS metal miles in, say, six years, would you get FC Au for life?

That's my understanding based on actual miles flown, not FC miles.

I'm calculating it on the basis of being ten years FC Au from June 2005, apart from one flight with HA I have only flown on Virgin metal. Some of the re-qualfications have been with the assistance of extra TP offers though.

I have counted 277 TPs during the ten years up until end of November last year and I will also re qualify for Au at the end of February this year. I am flying again Feb/Mar this year but that is with a reward flight.

As I understand it I need 3 TPs before June to make lifetime Au
which isn't an issue as will be booking a trip for May sometime but if I have made a mistake I can change my reward flight and pay instead if necessary.

Just wanted to be sure and will call FC later today.

Just for clarity remember they only count the tier points from the day you became Au, tier points gained in that year do not count.

I have counted the TPs from June 2005, onwards from the date I became Au.

I am hoping that this is correct.

And, just to confirm, you were Au for each of the years? Oh, and now I'm confused myself because an FC year is of course 13 months, and I think [ :0 ] that it's ten full FC years not ten calendar years!

Your call will hopefully clarify.

Gold for life is calculated on ten calender years, I think:

"The Tier Points are calculated at the start of the first Gold membership year and is calculated on 10 consecutive calendar years, not 10 Gold membership years"

Phew!

Yes based on experience it is 10 calendar years (120 months).

An even bigger Phew from me too. I did have a mild panic, but it is what it is anyway.

I called FC and have been given the name of a contact who is looking into it for me.

Thanks again everyone.

Sorry forgot to update this thread, although I do have the excuse of spending a couple of weeks in BGI.

FC did contact me to clarify details of lifetime gold. Unfortunately they had to do exactly the same as myself, just calculate and add them up manually with the added complication that they couldn't print out the details.

However, the lady was very helpful and we eventually agreed that my original calculations are correct and I will just need 4 more TP's before 1st June to achieve lifetime gold. I have now held flights with her to make this possible, so it's a positive outcome.

Thanks
Jilly

Just wanted to update this thread to say that lifetime Au was listed on my account on 2nd June as expected, bit of a relief actually although I did keep note of the correspondence with FC.

Does anyone know if I should receive a different FC card now or just keep using the same one. Not unduly worried but would be nice to know.

You should receive a normal VS Au card but with the added words "Lifetime Gold".

Nice

Congratulations Jilly quite an achievement. I have only ever managed Silver for four years and now back to Red as have gone over to the dark side for most of my flights, as they fly direct to where we want to go. Linda y)

Thanks very much.

Slinky do you know if I will receive the new card when my current year was due to expire, or before then?

Thanks again
