What on earth is this all about?! Perhaps I should first find out what "Ancillaries at Virgin Atlantic" means ;o)

Good grief - I'd have thought that a key factor in "loyalty" would be to connect with members of the loyalty programme, I'm not sure this is a good example of that.

Is he a consultant? Sure talks like one...

And, the one bit I did understand was trying to claim that flying club is markedly different to other loyalty programmes - well, I certainly don't see it that way. There are differences yes, but they are at the detailed level, the basic concept is exactly the same.

Sounds and looks a bit like the Stewart Pearson character (played by the great Vincent Franklin) in "The Thick Of It"..

..given to making such pronouncements as

"I like the plasmic nature of your data modelling", "Let's imagineer the narrative", "What's the weather like over at the Guardian? How do we counter-massage?", "Knowledge is porridge", "Time is a leash on the dog of creativity"

Sounds like he expects the audience to know about the terms he uses.

Well, it was on a site specifically aimed at people in that field. I too, however, am baffled.

Is this interview a hoax?

It makes almost as much sense as this!

Makes total sense to me, loyalty schemes are run for the good of the airline - to make money from other airlines/partners. At the same time they can gauge data from the customer base and to make sure profits remain high with feeding products/services to us.

Oh and most awkward presenter award goes toooooo ... :D

Well if he's the one that gives the VS IT department their instructions, it explains a hell of a lot....

It's his job to make money from everything other than ticket sales. Food, baggage fees, etc. With some LCC this part of the business is more profitable than the base ticket fare. It seems VS combine their Loyalty program management under the same roof as this other revenue stream, and he's trying to explain "why" and how it's better than BA or Ryanair. That's my take. Agreed that it doesn't make a lot of sense, either way.
