Cabbin Luggage

Hi all,

Just been looking to get some new hand luggage. I was all set to hit the 'buy' button on a samsonite one and then checked and realised it's over the VA dimensions. :(! Shame because I really liked it!

I just wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

I only want to take one piece (even though technically we can take four between us!). It must have four wheels and have an easy access external pocket for travel docs etc. The one I had chosen was the Ultimocabin.

I have looked to see if I could find any threads but I couldn't see any so apologies if this has been asked a zillion times. :D

I can't honestly say I have ever had my hand luggage dimensions checked when flying VS.

Once I had it weighed when flying PE ex MCO and even though it was over I was still allowed to take it on without any issue.

I have a Samsonite mini 4 wheel case.

I don't think we've ever been checked with VS.

I have only had it checked at LGW and that was flying PE.

Thanks for your replies all. The bag is only 4cm bigger than their published dimensions but I don't think I'll risk it. It would be just my luck that I'll be the one who gets her bag checked and will have to leave it behind! :w

Had mine weighed at LHR and LAX on multiple occasions but never had it refused.

Most carry on seem to be around 50% of the allowed weight when empty!

I was in Debenhams a couple of months ago idly browsing when staff came up as they do. So I set what I thought was an impossible task.
I'm looking for hand luggage that I can take on board an aircraft. It must have wheels and a handle, but I'd also like to be able to use it as a rucksack.
Certainly sir. He produced one with all those attributes and at a sale price of £49.
I think the make is Debenhams own, Tripp.

So I bought it.

You have jogged my memory. I have a Samsonite one gathering dust in the loft. Or is it Timberland. I am off up there now to forage!

Well I've just been up to the loft and brought my new Tripp bag down. 2.7Kg empty, but load up 3 cameras a small laptop and a tablet and it now weighs 11 Kg.
But it still has loads of room so I've put in a small M&S canvas carrier bag which will serve as the laptop bag.
IF check in query the weight I'll just pull out the carrier and have two bags. (fortunately going upper so shouldn't be a problem.) then re-pack in the CH
3 weeks, 1 day, 1 hour, 40min to go
Dick D

There is a flap in the back of the bag so Mrs D can put the documents there and get to them even if I'm wearing it rucksack style.

I had mine weighed coming back from Cancun when flying upper! was at the front of the queue to board so i assume it set a precedent for that flight

Aer John has a similar one but it's a Samsonite. He got it about 12 years ago and it has travelled the world with him (and me as I've borrowed it from time to time) and is still going strong. y)

Now, I prefer not to have wheels on hand luggage, mainly if I'm travelling long haul or anywhere I'm going to have a checked bag. So for me a back pack type of hand luggage is better and it can be balanced on top of a regular case with wheels to drag along and keep one hand free.

This is what I use:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000VSDLR0/r ... Z18S&psc=1

It has loads of room, comfy shoulder straps and built laptop / iPad storage nd plenty of pockets.
Alternatively I'll use this and my OH will use the Wenger:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mother-Lode-Wee ... other+lode

The eBags Mother Lode is rather good, very spacious with plenty of pockets, can be used as a back pack or as a regular soft suitcase. Built in compression straps, hidden laptop compartment, and cabin friendly. I have it in a very camp purple which they call aubergine! Not quite as chic as your Samsonites and Louis Vuittons :0

I must say Ultreen, that a leather shoulder bag looks much more Upper than my nylon rucksack.
I chose mine specifically for MCO. (I thinks that's where AJC is heading too.)
The reasoning is that from the plane you pick up your luggage and then have a choice.
1) give it back and it will be bussed to the main terminal.
2) keep it and take it on the sky-train.
I don't like the idea of letting go of my luggage so I take it on the train, but to do that I have to carry it up an escalator. Travelling Upper with two cases and a carry on is not easy so a rucksack style is the best option.
What is even worse is that my carry on is blue and the cases are bright yellow!

You're right, I am indeed going to MCO. I think I will have to hand over my luggage though as I don't think I'll be able to copy with two suitcases and two sets of hand luggage by myself. :( Does it add a lot of time doing it that way?

Yes Darren, the campest thing you've ever seen for a "backpack" but very practical and hard to lose!

First bag looks nice enough, I have a John Rocha one similar. The LV is rather nice, but an awful lot of money for what it is. Stylish though, which of their collection is it?

Didn't realise it was LV. I'd rather save my cash for my next flight. When I'm a very famous author maybe ... :D

what's wrong with an ASDA bag?

Waitrose for PE and Fortnum & Mason for UC

Like it. But I still prefer mine, years of good service, still in good condition and carries all my cabin baggage to perfection.

My husband.

I'll get my coat.

Nothing wrong with an Asda carrier bag...I get "spotted" some weekends by my team queueing for a "build your own pizza" at the pizza counter in Asda...they've been known to take pics, tag me and then and post them online!
All good fun! :0

I have no idea what a waitrose or a fortnum & mason are...is it like Harvey Nicks?
