What are Virgin currently serving for meals in the economy cabin? I'm lactose intolerant so I hope not everything has a creamy sauce :(

Flying from Gatwick-MCO if that helps. Thanks.

Thank you, but I need a menu.

I hope I don't have to take sandwiches with me.

When are you flying? The meals are changed on a fairly regular basis, the current meal might not be what you end up with.

Well if you are lactose intolerant then I would a) take my own food just in case b) tell them you have special dietary requirements ahead of time as you will not be the first person to fly Virgin with lactose intolerance c) I would still take my own just in case.

Sparklyflier, in your booking section you can order a special meal, I believe they offer a lactose free meal (it might be vegetarian/vegan, though). Usually at least one of the options on the day is without any creamy sauce, but depending on where you're sitting there is the possibility that they might run out. Booking a special meal ahead of time is the way to go if you're worried.

I went out from LGW to GND on 26 Jan in EC and believe the meat options were (I don't usually look at the veggie option...):

Spanish chicken with rice. It doesn't mention cheese (I cannot eat cheese on a plane) or anything on the menu, and when I checked with the crew, they reviewed the "ingredients list" and confirmed that there was no cheese, but milk. However, after I went for this option, there was cheese in the meal... So don't choose this one!

The other option was beef stew with mustard mash. Thankfully my well-trained hubby went for this as a back-up option for me, and I enjoyed it very much. I don't think it had cheese or a creamy sauce.

Hope this helps

phone them up & request a meal to your diet needs.
They do cater for it. I can do it online in my booking

Just logged into manage my booking for my upcoming trip and can confirm that there is an option for 'special meal' and from the drop down list there is an option 'veggie/lacto' which I assume would be suitable for your needs?

I think the trouble is in my experience that common options in Economy/Premium are pasta - which always has cream or cheese, some meat with potatoes/mash which usually has dairy in or a curry or stew which again tends to have some milk or cream in.

Make sure you choose the veggie/lacto special meal online early and remember to select it for outbound and inbound :D
If it were me I might also take some bits and bobs that I know I could have as backup in case despite your request they don't load the meal or if its not to your taste.

Good Luck!

If you go the special request meal route, definitely DO NOT select Vegetarian/Lacto as the meal option, as this will certainly have dairy in it. To avoid dairy, only the Vegan/Vegetarian option will be suitable. Be aware that it might be quite bland, I try to avoid dairy and have occasionally opted for the vegan option. Sometimes it's OK, but some airlines just give you rice and peas and some dry crackers! I know, it's not perfect as you're not technically veggie, but it should help you avoid an allergen. Good luck! :)
