I have just upgraded my niece and her husband from economy to Upper from A T to G for the return journey ,the fare miles have been taken and the extra taxes were £2.20 YES £2.20. .

Now waiting for the phone call to say we got the taxes wrong

The agent did check with a collegue and came back with that price , I'll keep everyone informed because it could be the catch of the century

Double and triple checked with Virgin and accounts department .


ITS OFFICIAL I PAID £2.20 for 2 upgrades from economy (T) to upper (G) from Antigua to LGW in Nov I don't think that's going to be beaten

Happy days the down side they wanted £480 taxes to go out for 2

I'm promised within 72 hours from Friday .but they have double and tripled checked the price including a visit upstairs to revenue fares who agreed it was right

If its going to be about a fiver in taxes to upgrade, then I'm busting out my miles again (dusty from lack of use, last used in 2013).

ISTBC but the extra money isn't actually tax, it's fuel surcharge i.e. revenue for Virgin.

Thanks everyone just the luck of the draw but it surprised me somehow I don't think upgrading on the way out will drop by much however apr 01 is coming

Sorry - this is probably a stupid question but is a T a reward fare? Does that mean you can technically upgrade a reward fare again with miles?

Yes sthe,

T class is a economy reward seat and G is a upper reward

How did I not know this! I thought that a reward flight couldn't be upgraded. Wish i'd have known this - i.e. if i had a reward economy booked and then saved enough airmiles closer to flying i could have upgraded!

Economy reward seats start from the M class (you now have to ring VS to book these). Remember there has to be reward availability in a PE or UC to upgrade.
