V-Flyer

Flown easyjet to cyprus many times and never really had any complaints but thought I might try BA this time as believe it or not I don't think I've ever set foot on a BA plane so what do you lot reckon ? Stick with the old or try something new ??
Ps prices are pretty similar so not an issue

I recently flew economy BA from LGW to Dublin and was surprised to get quite a nice free breakfast and free hot/cold drinks handed out(after getting nothing included on recent Ryan Air or Aer Lingus flights LGW and BRU trips to Dublin).

On the return I was in BA Business (as positioning leg of my Expedia trip in Upper to LAS) and the food was really brilliant for such a short flight.

Didn't really notice a massive difference in comfort BA versus Ryan Air in economy - but it was such a short flight I hadn't even checked if there was a legroom difference to be honest.

Sorry if that's not much help but if prices similar I'd see if there's a legroom difference as that's a longer flight than mine and maybe check if BA offers food included and Ryan Air doesn't and go with the food !

Sorry, getting my flights mixed up, it was LGW for Ryan Air to Dublin but was LHR to Dublin I took with BA!

My personal rule is to stick with VS on long haul which for us is predominently to the US. Then for short hall BA or easyjet. Been on both for many a short hop and can say that in my experience there is very little difference. Both charge you for seat selection and have similar seat sizes. Easyjet do charge for hold luggage (at booking stage) and have a buy-onboard system.

Apart from that I'd say the two are comparable (unless you fly club europe). For such short flights I'm neither here nor there with which to choose. Both offer good service and to be honest the only real difference is whether you mind paying seperately for luggage and food?......Although I haven't experienced the new BA short-haul seats so cannot comment on those.

I have had a few short-haul trips on BA, generally with no complaints other than the odd delays. I haven't flown Easyjet for years, though, and hear that they have improved lots recently. My assumption would be that you get more free stuff on BA still? In terms of food and drinks in comparison?

if pricing is similar, I'd go with BA. Free snack/drink, plus Avios earning (even if only a small amount).

I've opted for BA on short haul a few times when EZY was an option, purely based on price. That said I've rarely had a delay with EZY, they are meticulous about efficient turnarounds compared with BA. EZY's fleet is newer, BA's is older - that may matter to some. If I had to rate one of them in terms of overall satisfaction my answer today would be EZY, but that could easily change.

Blacky, when I fly to mother dearest in Portugal I only have the option of Bristol as LHR is to far away to justify for a flight to Faro or Lisbon. So I fly Ryanair or easyjet.
If I lived closer to LHR I would pick BA over both just for Avios, tier points and status.

Had a similar decision recently for a trip to Cyprus. Being able to scoop the front row of Easyjet was a real winner, especially on such a lengthy short haul flight. The extra legroom is great.

Depends where Easyjet are flying from. Being in north herts, LTN is 15 mins away but tomorrow I'm flying to Bulgaria fr Heathrow as the Wizzair price was the same as BA and the BA flight has better times. Add in the tier points and avios and it makes it a bit more sense to take BA.

The new EU short haul CE seats are a disappointment as they are really easyjet/ryanair style with just the missing middle seat.

easyJet are fine, however there is something effortless about using BA.

Gates are generally closer, airbridges are used and the planes are getting much needed revamps.

And if prices are more or less the same then the inflight service of BA will get a few freebies.

Easyjet wouldn't be my choice but ended up on one fron Paris to Milan a few weeks ago. It was ok for the short one hour flight but I will stick with BA for short haul in future where possible and definitely for anything longer than one hour as the seats are like sitting on a wooden bench!

2-4-2 seating in economy.
1 film to watch each way.
No complaints.
Easyjet I just use for INV to London.

The one thing that is putting me off easyjet was that my last flight back from cyprus was on an older plane and the legroom was noticeably different to the outbound which was on a newer plane with the thin seats

That must have been one of the 767's they have on short haul.
Most are A319/A320/A321 aircraft.

You said one shouldn't take longs trips on BA flights, so what do I do what I'm on a 13 hour flight from Japan?

I have just got off an EasyJet flight from Bristol to Edinburgh, flight arrived early, seat fine & price good, haven't flown BA short haul for years, use Ryanair fairly frequently & find EasyJet much, much better.

I didn't say at all that one shouldn't take long haul flights on BA, I said that my personal rule based on my preferences is to fly VS for long haul (which for me is for the most part to the US) and BA/Easyjet for short haul.

I haven't flown BA long haul in about 7yrs but my last time flying with them wasn't a great experience...since then I prefer to fly VS. This works for me but as I said this is based on my preferences and is largely based on where I fly. On the odd occasion when I have flown east for example to Japan I've decided to fly on Emirates or Air France but thats not to say that other people shouldn't fly BA long haul!

You'll be waiting a long time for a petition against VS when this is Vflyer, were on here because most of us love VS!

I recently flew EZY only a short flight, but it was a new aircraft out and old back. The difference in legroom was very noticeable, the return on the older aircraft was so uncomfortable and that was an hour flight - any longer I would have really struggled.

The new BA aircraft are really really nice if you get one.

I have flown BA short-haul (and long) for years. No major issues, so far (that's tempting fate!). I have flown easyjet once and vowed never again. But that was from Liverpool and years ago, things have changed I hear, for the better.

Being offered food and scratch cards for sale on a flight always puts me off- call me a snob if you wish, but I find it tacky.

The queues for easyjet I see at LGW verses the lack of queue for BA in the same departure hall also puts a seal on my current booking decisions. So were I to be heading to Cyprus, I would choose BA.
