Good Morning From the Gatwick Clubhouse & Security Update

We're currently sat in the Clubhouse awaiting our trip to Antigua and as usual it is a veritible oasis away from the chaos outside.

The airport management have decided to close the Premium Channel and have made no alternative arrangements for customers who would normally use this service. Worse still they appear to have neglected to tell the UC check in guys or anyone in the CH.

If I were Virgin management I'd be asking for a refund on fees they no doubt pay for this service and/or be seeking alternative arrangements for customers who are paying for but not getting a premium experiance..

Rant over, coffee's arrived and.......... Relax 8D

To be honest the last few times I've been through LGw the premium security channel takes longer than the main area.

Enjoy the Clubhouse and Antigua!

Is this a permanent closure or just today?

Enjoy the clubhouse and your holiday.

I found the premium much better the last few times I've used it. Has been crap in the past, but no queue and straight through... About 2 minutes.

Hopefully this is a temporary thing.

It was closed in mid-Jan when I was there. I just assumed it hadn't opened yet (7.15am). Wasn't a problem though - normal security was quiet and quick.

The main premium security was closed for refurbishment on 18th, but there was a temporary lane setup - furthest to the left of the main security area. There was only a small sign up; I could easily have missed it.

Now in Antigua and had a great flight over, got here nearly an hour earlier than planned due an unexpected tail wind and now have a mojito in hand so totally chilled.

It looks like they are refurbishing the Premium Channel as it has one of those temporary builders doors blocking the entrance with the obligatory health and safety notices. If there was an alternative it wasn't signposted and the guy at the entrance to the main channel wasn't aware of anything either.

It will be interesting to see if anyone else has the same experiance we had in the next few days\weeks.

There is a door to the Premium channel which is closed, but continue to the main security and there are two gates for premium so we have come through this morning without queuing.

I thinks it's more down to cost savings or staff shortages. Used the north terminal on 1st Feb (8.45am) and the premium doors were closed with the first lane of the normal security being used for premium. On 13 Feb I was again in north terminal this time it was early 5am and again closed and no line for premium. It was the start if the school holidays and very busy. There was some disgruntled BA business class users (I was travelling ET but had access rights due to being gold) I believe a couple of these passengers tweeted somebody because hey presto a security supervisor came rushing over and opened the premium channel in a very flustered state. Seems everyone in the travel industry are "enhancing" the experience wherever they can. Seeing that a lot of US airports now charge 5$ "non refundable" for a luggage cart you have to ask ow much longer will lgw remain returnable for 1€
