If we are booked S outbound and K inbound can we upgrade the outbound only with miles and a tax increase or does the inbound have to be moved to an S first even though we aren't upgrading this leg?

You will be able to upgrade your S to a G without doing anything to your K.

Being pedantic there won't be any additional taxes as APD is the same for UC as it is PE.

The VS fuel surcharge on the other hand ...
