Announced yesterday that EasyJet will no longer be flying Newcastle to Gatwick after March 29th 2015......well that lasted 12month approx... Can't say I am surprised....trying to get to Gatwick from the Northeast is a bit of a 'mare.....

Feel a bit sorry for any Virgin staff (I have relatives that are) that live in the Northeast and have to travel to Gatwick regularly.....

Easyjet state that it is a non-profit route (mainly the flight back to Newcastle from Gatwick) - I do understand this, I know that airlines need to make money etc....but it just seems that Newcastle airport really struggle to get any long term deals apart from BA to heathrow and TC holiday destinations...

but hey-ho a new flight to Stansted from Newcastle is being introduced? EH?? Stansted? really? and that will make profit...?

Lets see how long the new Easyjet NY flights last from Newcastle, they are really quite expensive for a budget airline, and would you really want to fly budget on a 7-8hr flight...I predict this will also be cancelled early 2016..

I never use the term "low cost" to describe these airlines. The are at best "low cost at offpeak times". My current regular one, flybe, stuffs me totally for Friday and Sunday flights. Even in 8 weeks time, they've still got the Sunday flight at 115 euros...

And ryanair isn't much better with some routes. Random time in May, Birmingham to Alicante, 299 euros return... Oh, I'm sure I can perhaps get that down to 179 euros if I leave a Tuesday morning at 6am, but hardly "low cost".

I know what you mean, we regularly us Ryan air for cheeky weekends to Dublin - go on a Friday morning, home on a Sunday...flights after April now leave Dublin at 07.40am....??? not great after a night drinking Guinness whereas we are going next weekend and the flight is 09.40am which is a little better

At least you can get to LHR from NCL. Not the case from poor old MME.

To get to LHR you have to fly via AMS!

Depends, I would think, on the other legs the airframe will be doing and the available slots at the specific airport?

Looks like Jet2 are doing NCL-NYC (and other airports) but not on a regular schedule

sorry think I got easyjet and jet2 confused!! oops, the flights were announced late last year to start in May this year, think they were May - Nov... they did a big promotion in the local paper (the chronicle) stating that the fares would be £450 ish, those prices never materialised, If I remember rightly I think cheapest was £600+, a lot of local people had the same opinion as me, that they wouldn't last very long....only time will tell.

Many people I know use Newcastle airport for quick cheap holidays, package deals, weekends away etc, but not for serious "long haul" deals, and for most USA trips, most people use either Manchester or use connecting flights from Heathrow, this what we do, travel down the night before and stay locally to the airport

It also be interesting to watch how things turn out with the developments of the air passenger duty saga in Scotland....as that will have an effect on the North east.

Its' sometimes annoying when you live within 20miles (as I do) of the airport and want an easy way of planning your holidays, but end up commuting down to the big smoke, but I'm not complaining, I'm lucky I can afford to have the nice holidays, some people can't
