V-Flyer

My wife and I are due to fly overnight to CapeTown in a few weeks in UC. Having never experienced UC on the A340-600 before, I have looked at the seat map on the Virgin website and thought row 4 would be good - not too close to the bassinet; galley; toilets etc and hopefully to be bathed in sunshine for the last few hours of the flight! But unlike others who have posted similar questions and have been advised to go for tandem seats e.g. 6A and 7A, my wife is a nervous flyer and prefers to have me in clear view across the aisle! Consequently, we have previously (e.g. on A330s) gone for seats opposite one another - say 4A and 4D. BUT a close examination of the Virgin seat map for the A340-600 suggests that in order to be opposite one another, we should actually go for 4A and 5D (rather than 4D) because of the extra seat in the middle section of the cabin. However, both SeatGuru and Expert Flyer maps don't show this "offset" and I am trying to find out the real life situation. One or two You Tube videos suggest that 4A and 5D are in fact opposite one another, but the angles are difficult to see precisely.
Has anybody any real life experience of this section of the A340-600 UC cabin.? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated

Go for A A rather than A D. i.e. go for 4A and 5A rather than 4A and 4D.

my Husband and I have just done the LHR to Cape Town route in UC both ways and I have to agree with slinky09, being next to each other and in the same row is the best option. Easy to chat, easy to hop onto each other's foot ottoman . being opposite would mean raising voices to chat and not really an option on an overnight flight.

Like Slinky has said go for seats 4/5 no one opposite and you can talk or sit on the ottoman. Even had an elderly couple in front of us holding hands over the screen as we took off. We go for the K seats far enough away from the bar and not too close to the loos to be a problem. Have a great trip and enjoy.

If you don't want people opposite you you need to be on the K side (ie 4K & 5K).

I appreciate that (now) but there were none left! Clearly, there are too many people out there who are much more astute than I am at this game! I shall keep monitoring the situation in case there are any cancellations etc

Yes 11 and 12A are also very good
Perhaps 16 and 17 are a little close to toilets and bar but otherwise they're all good really

I think they are good seats. The advantage of the K side is that you are a good distance from the bar and so typically favoured. But 11/12A are nicely positioned.

Thanks Linyilee and at240, puts my mind at ease so I can look forward to it.

6A and 7A are the best. Both face a wardrobe and are very private.

Nobody in line of sight really.
