V-Flyer

... First time! ( sorry VA you can take me to MCO ) any way LHR to SFO in Sept, any ideas or advice most welcome. Should we sit together in the middle or by the windows. Will the food n bubbly be nice. Anything you can tell me about BA first will fuel my exitement.

Recently did this to DXB with Mrs S

We sat in the middle so we could chat. The window seats don't really let you do that.

Food? Well, I was gobsmacked when I asked for one of the dishes and they said they had run out! They said they only loaded 4 of each dish. I did enquire if I was on a code share with Ryanair.

As I am of 'modest stature' I find the footrest a bit too far away from the seat - but that is a truly First World problem.

Overall though, the it is very enjoyable and the crew are fairly attentive.

Concorde Room is very nice.

I find the best seats are the two in the middle the E and F seats, and if you don't want talk to your other half you can always lift the screen, the food is the best I have had in the air, so much so we have just booked first to Barbados for later on this year, the service we have had with BA has always been 5 STAR

Honey Lamb has done a couple a BA first relatively recently.

She did do TRs but I can't remember the destinations.

Despite some of the individual threads being 'robust' there is a good flyer talk guide to BA so have a look at that.

The dark side... Really?! I thought people would have got over that term by now.

If it's on the 380 First is especially good.

4E/F best as row 5 can get some galley noise. You'll enjoy it.

Maybe try for 1A/K?

Only done it once but it was great fun -- good food, very good wine, good service, good Concorde Room.

EGG I had my first foray with BA F a few months ago and loved it ( 777 and 380). Book a cabana in the CCR ( you can do that at time of booking with You First) and book a treatment in the spa (28 days out).Seat in bed mode is very comfortable .
We booked widow seats as we're happy to travel in tandem .
Have a fabulous time.

I wouldnt go middle unless you really want to chat all day. We do 2 and 3a/k

Get to CCR early- the food is good, breakfast is best. If you ahev lots of time you can do galleries 1st as well with the champagne bar
Book a cabana if you want (just a loo/shower with a sofa)
Book spa treatments a month out or you will not get them (not like Virgin)
Drink lots of Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle in the CCR and on the plane- its £120 a bottle- you need to get at least £500 of value between you!
Ask for the chocolates on the plane- they are rarely offered

In the air it is much better than Virgin (well it is 1st and not club). On the ground the champagne is better but I prefer the overall DTCI/clubhouse experience.

Can't help thinking what a wonderful dilemma to have !

Wherever you choose to sit I'm sure you will have a First Class flight.

Flown rtn to BGI with BA First - if you do a search, you should be able to locate my TRs on this.

I personally loved it, everything as per above really, but I found the onboard service, food and drink to be quite the best I've ever experienced (shouldn't be surprised, I guess, but it was simply excellent).

HoneyLamb did express reservations, but then, it's all in the eye of the beholder really,.

You won't get the really engaging and very personal interaction like you do sometimes with VS CC, but I don't find BA CC to be as stand-off as many would accuse them - there will be exceptions of course.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your flight...

Also booked my 1st first with BA recently to ORD rtn in July, 777 both ways and after consideration we decided on window seats instead of the Middle, song really talk that much during a flight except maybe over dinner and can always eat in the others suite at dinner time

Well I had it mid -Feb

Tasting menu is a 380 thing.
747 First class isn't as big as the 380, or even the 777, but is still nice, and SFO is a WW route so should be a better chance of a good service. (I never trusted the MF vs WW crew differences until recently when we have had some less than par flights with MF...)

4EF have some of the suite surround missing so you might feel a little 'open' around your feet. Keep your fingers crossed that 1A&K are available at T-36hrs, they are great if traveling as a couple.

LHR CCR is nice, our favourite part is out on the terrace. When you want food it's nicer to go to the dining room section and be seated at a table.
If you have time, visit the other BA Lounges to see how different they are to Virgin lounges.

If you get a text from BA asking you about your lounge experience, while you are in the lounge, reply, especially if there is an issue. They monitor this live at the airport and can correct issues and come talk to you.

On the flight ex-LHR, have some dulce de leche ice cream from the club kitchen (its in the brown cardboard box in the fridge) Its very nice!

What is a cabana in ccr please?

You book them via you first (as you do the beauty treatments). It is a small room with shower, toilet and a day bed, tv etc. You can take a bottle of champagne it and have a nap. Not that nice- good if you want to work

CCR is concorde room- the BA lounge that you can only go in if flying 1st or a super gold bA member

I must say that I have been to the Darkside and it was GREAT, First rate

We will be trying it out later this year- and am very much looking forward to it (though we are flying out of Terminal 3 at LHR, so no CCR).

I think if you put the experience into perspective (it is still a journey on a glorified flying bus, not entry to Nirvana!) you will have a great exprience. Though a lot depends on the crew on the day, we see that time and time again in the Trs.

Like I said in my earlier post you can book the cabana as soon as you have your F ticket ( you can only book your treatment in the Elemis spa at -28 days).
They're nowhere near as nice as the CX First ones at The Wing in HKG but are great to freshen up and have a shower in ( whilst sipping on the nice bottle of fizz that's been sent down from the bar ). They're booked in 4 hour slots so if you want one get it booked asap .
