V-Flyer

We were due to fly on vs74 last night but flight was cancelled. Reason given was ground crew unable to open cargo door because load jamming it. Staying at Hyatt overnight then choice of downgrade from UC or home on Delta metal to Atlanta then vs110. So trying the latter so could make interesting Trip Report.

Yes a LHR 744 operating the VS 73 today due to a/c being stuck in MCO. VS not having much luck this week what with G-VSXY having her inadvertent foam bath at MAN as well!

Nice load of €600 EU261 payments to make too (at least for the MCO delay).

Probably claim it is outside their control as they didnt load the baggage!!!

I do hope that no-one is suggesting that Virgin may try to wriggle out of paying EU261 claims

I bet they are keen to offer alternatives to EU261, i.e. free flight voucher / FC miles etc - as they know that some of these will be taken but not used before they expire. Some passengers don't know about EU261.

If you accept the miles/flight voucher can you still make a claim?

Yes- I was given 12500 miles and still claimed my EU.

I cant see how loading baggage incorrectly can be seen as extraordinary, clearly someone messed up, so would have though they will pay out on that without a fight.

Same with the fireman who sprayed foam instead of water on a plane, I cant see VS getting out of that one either.

I have to say when I had a 24 hour delay there was no mention of the EU regs at all, and a lot of people had no clue, even the voucher to claim the 12500 miles made only a vague mention to EU rights.

Notice that G-VROY the aircraft involved only returned to service on the vs16 last night so it has taken since Tuesday to sort out. Expensive especially at this time of year.

A lot will depend on whether VS asked for the salute or if Manchester Airport Fire Service did it off their own back. I think this is one of those situations where "The Lawyers" will be engaged and MAFS insurance may cough up.
