Greetings from the small-but-perfectly-formed EWR CH!

...where the son-of-a-DYKWIA has just thrown a tantrum (and enlisted his DYKWIA father to help [to no avail]) because the staff won't serve him alcohol as he's under 21.

The aforementioned scene made all the more amusing because the DYKWIA father forced his son to dig out his passport proving his age as...18.

Awwwww....

Absolutely lovely staff (who handled all this brilliantly) working this evening.

NYLON.

Bless...nothing more than enjoyable than an 18 year old throwing a tantrum cos he can't have a drink...they must be British?
Was he permitted a drink onboard? More importantly did he behave and not run up and down the aisles having screaming ab dabs?

Yes, a family of Brits. I'm not precisely sure who DYKWIA was (he looked 'corporate'), except that he was loudly referencing his close friendship with SRB.

DYKNWIA-Junior was indeed permitted a (small) glass of fizz once on the plane. Presumably the lack of booze during his NYC trip was so acute that the half unit alcohol he got from on-flight fix rendered him virtually unconscious for the remainder of the flight.

That said, as soon as we were on board, DYKWIA asked for a complaint form! The FSM must have been tipped-off from the CH because she took it in her stride.

I had coffee at the UC bar this morning... and there was DYKWIA still complaining! "Well, believe me when I tell you that you'll be hearing from SRB personally."

I hope if that's the case it's because SRB sends the CC and CH staff a jeroboam of champagne.

I was extremely impressed with the 787 all round; and the CC clearly love it - they enjoyed showing me how they could brighten or darken any window on the plane from a central control panel.

The mood lighting seems a bit of a gimmick to me. But small improvements like the ability to flush the toilet via the power of my mind (ok, ok, by waving at the little optical thingy) actually go a long way.

The UC seats have a significantly smaller (and, I suppose more importantly lighter) motor than those found on the 747/A440s, so the movement is much slower that what you might be used to. That said, the movement is very smooth and virtually silent (the latter a big improvement).

Incidentally, I asked again about the rumour I'd heard from another CC about refurbishing the A330 UC cabin. The new darkened partitions are just an interim measure, apparently. The FSM on this 787 flight said that the goal was to retrofit the A330 UCDS with the new 787-style UC seats (which will result in fewer UC seats on the A330s). Again, I take it all with a pinch of salt, as I've heard varying things about what to do with the A330 UCDS. All that anyone can agree with is that it needs to change!

Indeed he would be breaking the law. Perhaps they assumed British Airline = British Laws? Wonder if he tried this in any bars?

Still not the way to behave.

Maybe a note to Crawley Towers to commend the CH Staff and the FSM on how they dealt with it might go down well?? Means they have an independent witness as well on the record'

Tis a rule that the more you mention knowing someone in circumstances like this the more likely it is that you don't.

If he's such a close friend of SRB, why would he need a complaint form? Surely he'd just speak to him personally? ?|

He sounds like a complete bellend and I hope the Virgin staff are commended for not giving in to him as doing so would have put their jobs at risk.

I will definitely be writing to Crawley Towers (I only wish I'd got DYKWIA's name)! I actually felt like live-tweeting the unfolding awfulness...

It was both amusing and also just embarrassing. DYKWIA reminded me a lot of David Brent from The Office.

Trouble is, if he does complain he probably will get an apology and some miles as VS - like most companies these days - seem to be scared of the bad PR they might get by telling serial complainers and other eejits where to go if they have no legitimate grounds for whining.

I guess it's much easier in this 21st century compensation culture climate to fob someone off with a freebie than take a stand and politely but firmly say no.
