Our first UC experience is fast approaching - do any of you experts have any tips to make the most of the experience? We're flying on a 747-400 (LGW)
We have as day flight outbound and a night flight inbound.

Congratulations on your first UC flight ! You're in for a treat ! I've only flown UC from Heathrow and on A333 and A346 so can't really help... All I can say is get excited before, thoroughly enjoy the experience and come back here to let us know how it went by writing a travel report !

Oh well done, congratulations, you'll have a ball. Like julmops, I can't help because I've only flown out of LHR.
You really will enjoy it, the only downside as we've all found, is that after you've flown UC, you will never, ever, want to fly any other way. It can be an expensive habit.....
Don't forget that TR and have a wonderful time.

Indeed ! Been flying UC most times on business trips so accumulated a nice little pack of miles that I've used now on 2 separate occasions to upgrade to UC on my holiday trips ...
As I don't fly long-haul for my job anymore, this might well be the last time for a while that I can afford it and I already drag the idea of moving back to the other side of the curtain ...

Let's see....
Start the enjoyment in the LGW Clubhouse. The staff there are attuned to the fact that most in the CH are heading out on holiday and really try to add to the fizzle. Get a treatment, have a glass of champagne or a cocktail if that's your thing...
As you're on an LGW 747 there is only the A zone, so you'll find it spacious. Which seats have you pre-assigned? Spend time away from the seat and the screen at the bar, indulging in something alcoholic or not as your preference runs and converse with the crew member who will serve. (though do take advantage of the IFE system, there's some good content at the moment)>
Dine together, one of you on the ottoman, again gets you away from the seat and screen. Find that you have "mislaid" one of the salt and pepper sets...(only to discover it in your handbag later).
For the night flight, repeat as above but expect the crew to encourage you to sleep....

Thanks for the tips guys!
Whiterose: I'm certainly planning on doing my first ever TR for this, and I'll be sure to add pics too
Pjh : we have selected the illustrious 6A & 6K for the outbound, but due to a full seat map on the return, we have 11A & 12A at the rear

On the 6a 6k leg I suggest you board early.
1) you can have a glass of champagne and then get it topped up.
2) No overhead locker so you will need to use row 8 or above and the front of that locker won't take a large carry on.
If you are on early no probs. If not just ask the crew to stow your bag. Perhaps have a small bag for items you want to access and stow that under the footrest.
For the night flight, if you are planning to sleep make sure you can access ear plugs. IF (and I pray you don't) you have people chatting at the bar it can be a bit of a distraction.
The amenity pack ear plugs took me 10 mins to get out of the container.
Have a great trip.

I fully intent to make use of every possible second, so I will be right at the front of the line to board!

but I only intend on taking a backpack anyway, just enough to store my MacBook and the general small bits and bobs.
If all goes well, I'll get SEQ1 the day before, I'll get on first, manage to store my bag easily, be off quickly, and breeze through immigration. We'll soon see how that all pans out ......

I remember my last (and only) visit to the CH, we got there at 7am on the dot

Had a great time for a few hours, then time to board the plane, which went tech, so we were kept on the plane for a few hours, then back to the CH for more booze/food - not a bad place to be

Got our next one booked for 4 weeks time and am just as excited as you about it

Congratulations and enjoy.
I think the CH opens at 6.30am, I will try and find one of my TRs that had us in there at that time.
I can't see what time you said you were flying, but do make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy the CH. It isn't as big as LHR but it's a lovely oasis all the same.
6.20am!
