Does today mark the end of an era, with VSUN transferring to LGW?

Yes, unless VS run into any more 'A/C going tech' issues, which they seem to have had recently and which has delayed G-VSUN's retirement.

Noticed G-VHOT is also off to FRA on Sunday, I wonder what that is for? I don't think VS send A/C there for maintenance do they?

I do recall seeing the LHR 744's going to FRA for a short time, would heavy maintenance be done in China and the next check down be in FRA?

G-VSUN has positioned to LGW on 16 April. I guess this means it is retiring now.
