Didn't see this announced anywhere, but it looks like certain US routes have had some pretty hefty reductions on the miles needed for an Economy seat.
Currently only 25,000 needed for return trips to BOS, EWR, JFK, IAD, ORD, ATL, DTW and MIA, plus taxes.
Must be booked by May 20th.

Time to dust down the Amex PE vouchers.

Ah, I got excited but then realised it's only for Y! Ah well. Hopefully the next one with some PE availability will come out just as I get my next set of AMEX vouchers...

Do you mean the PE upgrade vouchers? They seem to be the only ones of worth...
In which case you buy a Y reward seat, and use the voucher.
Or am I missing your meaning?

Just got an email stating that there's a 20% bonus to miles purchases as well (straight purchases & miles booster)

The Econ - PE Rewards Upgrade voucher - you buy a PE reward seat but pay at Economy miles rate. With an economy reward sale they become really good value.

There has to be PE seats available to use the vouchers.
+ you pay PE Taxes.

So I ought to be thinking of these as PE redemptions with a miles discount rather than a free upgrade as marketed

?

Where in the marketing is it described as a "free upgrade"?
Virgin are not that stupid.
The website just says "Upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy when you spend £10,000 in a year on this card."

Pretty much, the voucher just allows you to book a Premium redemption for the number of miles you'd pay for an Economy redemption. The taxes are the same as if you'd booked a straight PE ticket. But PE for 25,000 miles return is a fantastic deal.

Can you use your PE voucher when you book online or do you need to ring up ?

It has to be done over the phone.
You could book the Y miles seat online, and then call to upgrade, but it's just easier to do it all over the phone.

Right, thanks for that - I had assumed, not having redeemed any yet, from what I had read in ts and cs that the vouchers upgraded your class of travel for the same miles AND tax/fees as an economy redemption. I can see how I've misinterpreted the small print.

Yes, I understand this. I was asking why he had a voucher for the upgrade, and yet was waiting for a PE reward seat sale. Ie: he should be using it NOW.

We used our PE vouchers earlier in the year for this months trip to DXB, a total bargain. PE x 3 (2 EC->PE with vouchers, 1 x miles PE) all for approx. £1200.
Happy Days

dont forget the PE voucher will either upgrade 1 person both legs, or 2 people 1 leg.

You could fly to ATL or JFK and then get a cheap delta flight down to MCO just make sure you leave enough time between flights to make the connection.
