Baggage Allowance UC

My family and I are travelling UC for the first time in July.
I have just looked at the baggage allowance. Seriously???
Between the four of us, we could take 12 pieces of luggage?
96kg each in total?
Is that right?
There's no way we'd need to take that much. We don't have that many cases anyway.
Better keep quiet about it or else my daughter will only consider it to be a challenge that she'd gladly take on!

Yup, 96kg per person (32kg per suitcase)
On my first UC flight I asked at the counter if anyone ever takes the full allowance and I was told some people actually manage it. Especially on the flights to the west indies apparently!

There are a couple of V-Flyers who regard even that 96KG as rather a meagre allowance!

Indeed - I've managed it several times ( as have several others , paging Jacqui....)

It's my first time in UC 7 Sep and I know there is no way I'll manage to get anywhere near my full allowance. However I fully intend to try and take 2 x medium cases plus a small carry on case, just because I can. My quandary is what handbag to carry! First World problems and all that

I couldn't physically manage it, but yes that's the allowance.
As a couple we take four suitcases. Two large that I carry and this year they were around 25kg each and two medium which weighted in at 20 and 21kg. Mrs D wheels those along.
But it is reassuring to know they could go up to 32kg especially for the return with Mrs D's shopping. (for some reason she thinks it's a good idea to buy things made of stone!)

And don't forget that on top of the UC 96Kgs allowance, there's an extra bag if you're Gold (23Kg), and then the Sports allowance (23Kg for Scuba diving in my case). So for my wife and I (she's Silver) that means 96Kgs x 2 + 23Kgs x 2 (Sports), and 23Kgs for my Gold card =261 Kgs. That's over 1/4 of a Ton. And yes, we've used it nearly all on some Scuba trips such as Alaska, and Eastern Canada....

That, Sir, is outstanding work

Indeed!
I'm afraid, even as Gold, I was an abject failure!

If I made 20kg, it was an achievement! However, the benefit of UC/Au for me was the potential for bringing stuff back from the US in the extra bag I may have packed.
Actually, on my last trip, my case weighed 14kg and I didn't need an extra bag
Sorry

Another advantage I find in flying VS is the generious UC allowance. Some airlines are not generous at all. I flew on Cathay to HKG and was restricted to one bag of 32KG in Business. They charged more than VS and allowed me less plus their LHR lounge though large is not too good compared to the clubhouse.
Happily back to VS for my next HKG flight on the VS206 with my three bag allowance. Stil dont get why flight number is changing from VS200 though

Slightly off topic but if flying out in Upper and return in PE does the Upper allowance take precedence over the PE allowance on the return?
Thanks

Allowance aside I would rather fly out PE and back Upper if I could only do it one way.
Much more benefit from an Upper night flight. Also back to the allowances, more room/weight for purchases.

I have found that a few bags of the XXL M&M candy / sweets that my son likes soon start to the put the allowance in jeopardy
At 1.5kg a bag and a number of varieties......

Have to admit to a very feeble attempt at the UC baggage allowance back in May. flew home from MCO and I think I checked 28kg in total across 2 bags. Did have carry-ons x2 + duty free as well (in mitigation).
Some passengers were clearly trying to max out the limit though. At MCO I went to check bag No2 at the Upper Class area & there were 2 groups checking in with porters trolleys piled high with bags. They were checking in the full 3 bags per person for sure.

I could probably reach the UC limit, but i'm not sure i'd survive lugging all three on the piccadilly line through central london however!

Does anyone know the best place to get reasonably priced suitcases for all the stuff my children will insist on bringing home please?
I reckon we'll need an entire case for all the American candy the children will want to bring back - amongst other stuff.

Wallmart is very good for a cheap case/bag to bring things home in - you can get a decent size holdall for not much than $20

Target and the US version of TK Maxx (TX?) are also worth a look.
And if you are organised I guess you could find something on Amazon and have it delivered to your hotel.
