An unexpected detour and tier points

I have a quick question.

I booked a return flight (with Delta as it was substantially cheaper than Virgin) to North Florida via Atlanta. I chose Delta to get the tier points and mileage on my Virgin Account.

However on my return on Tuesday evening, there were massive weather issues at Atlanta which meant that due to a delay in flights, I would have missed my connection to LHR. All credit to Delta who quickly sorted out the issue by moving me on to a United flight to Charlotte and then onto LHR via American Airlines.

It was only on the flight home and realising American and United are "One World" partners, I thought about whether I would still get my Virgin tier points and mileage credited to my account?

If anyone can let me know I would be grateful.

p.s. American Airlines were pretty awful - and I can't say I will be in any great hurry to travel with them again - but at least I got home :)

Other airlines do what is called 'Original Routing Credit' where they give the miles / TPs for your original booking rather than the one you flew if there has been disruption.

Not 100% sure of VS/DL offer this though but certainly worth asking. In the first instance contact DL as you booked with them.

(BTW UA are in *Alliance not One World)

Apologies - I meant US Airways (still slightly jet lagged!) Thanks for the response.

Last time this happened to us, we got credited the VS miles which we would have earned automatically. I then emailed the airline which actually flew us (BA) and they credited those too.

Can you expand on that.
I was looking at DUB to Charlotte and on to Hilton Head as a possibility with American Airlines who do a business return for £1111.

Can't comment on Business as I had to make do with Economy. Chaos during the boarding process as they were redirecting everyone trying to board to a different desk to check documentation rather than do it at the gate. The plane was dirty - not sure that a vacuum cleaner had been used - there was a lot of debris under the seats. Sullen and snappy crew. My touch screen didn't work properly so couldn't select any films. I am not a fussy eater but the food was not good - although I did have to smile when someone asked how the chicken was served - the response was "airline style - it doesn't matter if you have the pasta or chicken - it all tastes the same."
The service was seriously lacking - some passengers managed to be lucky enough to get a drink from the drinks trolley - others didn't as the food trolley had then started which meant the drinks trolley disappeared into the ether never to be seen again. I had to ask for a glass of wine with my meal. I appreciate that these are all first world problems - but lots of little niggles left me with a negative impression. It was very functional - rather than a pleasing and happy experience. Perhaps I was unlucky and others have had better experience than this trip.
