Morning All,
So its that time again where I am booking my next Trip to Las Vegas in Nov this year. For the first time I have decided to do an Ex Dub Route and Fly Upper Class. I just Managed to get my flights ( 4 in total, 2 with virgin and 2 with British airways business) for wait for it ..................... £1040 :0 :0. I never new that going ex dub would be so much cheaper. Last year i paid just shy of £3,000 for return in upper class which i thought was good. I have no idea how i will keep a strait face on the plane, i feel like i have just robbed them LOL

For anyone else interested check out sky scanner as there is quite a few days where you can get the same price as me if your happy to fly Dub to london then london to vegas.

Wow that's a fantastic price. Well done! y) As for robbing VS dare I mention fuel surcharges that we normally pay them. ;)

It's great isn't it!

I just bought DUB-LHR-JFK for £932.

Long may it continue - though I fear with recent reports of BA & VS actively finding ways to crack down on it, and the seemingly inevitable forthcoming IAG takeover of Aer Lingus, its days may be numbered. Hopefully I'm wrong.

You've finally made me look at these DUB fares. I'm not doing too well though... How do I go about ORD on Oct 3rd returning from MCO on Oct 17th all in upper?

Do you mean you're struggling to work out how to search for them or the search isn't bringing up a decent price?

Expedia's pricing that at £2085 vs the VS fare of £3186.

Not as cheap as some - your problem seems to be the return from MCO which is booking into a D bucket rather than a Z. Still an £1100 saving though!

If you were to come back from ATL instead of MCO it's much cheaper - £1215 vs the VS fare of £2457. DL fly MCO-ATL hourly, it only takes an hour and is normally fairly cheap. Plus you'd fly back into LHR instead of LGW so would have use of Revivals.

Note that on the outbound the VS39 leaves at 0945 so you might want to do the DUB-LHR leg the night before. EI do fly out of DUB at 0640 but you'd only have 100 mins to connect at LHR which is perfectly doable but doesn't leave much Clubhouse time.

Aha! Awesome. Thank you for your help. I couldn't see multi city on Skyscanner but Expedia worked well. Thank you.

What BA and VS are cracking down on is people not taking the final leg. The reason for the cheaper ex-EU fares is to encourage passengers from those countries to fly the UK carriers rather than their national carriers and - excluding those V-Flyers (and presumably FTers) in the know - it's working. On my return flight from LAS last year in BA First there were passengers with onward flights to Paris and Denmark who were French and Danish respectively who, no doubt were benefitting from the ex-EU trick just as I was from Cork and all of us were taking that final leg.

I'm not sure that the takeover of Aer Lingus with IAG, if it happens, will affect the ex-EU fares. My recent flights to LAS and DUR via JNB originated and terminated with an Aer Lingus flight to and from LHR but each was a codeshare with BA as they no longer fly into Cork. I'm not sure if EI do codeshares in and out of DUB given that BA fly there (must ask Aer John) but there has always seemed to be a fluidity between the two especially as EI was once a member of the One World Alliance.

Booked an ex-Dub for July flying on the BA LCY service (both legs) for less than 1/2 the price of a direct booking!

No VS flights the dates I wanted.

Used google flights to sort out options and then booked via expedia (via a quidco link)

Tonty is all excited!

I'm getting "The seats you selected are no longer available. [143]" for the flights mentioned above and the same if I change ATL to JFK... Anyone have any ideas?!

Scrap that. It worked with ebookers. I'm finding this far too good. I should put the alcohol down!

I hope people are also remembering to book either via the various cash-back websites or the VS Shops Away link too when doing this to squeeze that little bit extra out of the deal as well :)

All the various online booking agents are on both those.

A couple of interesting tales of ex-EU experiences over on the headforpoints blog today - one good, one not so good.

Both involved BA long-haul flights but obviously the principle's the same.

great price.
I couldn't justify flying to vegas in upper class.
that would dent my bank roll for gambling

Hi all,

I'm now finally going to give in and look into this Ex-DUB that i've seen floating about so much.

But can't seem to work it all out. How would one start looking for these Ex-DUB flights, and how do you search for them/get them?

Thanks y)

Well the one that went 'wrong' was hardly a disaster on the HL scale was it

And as the guy himself said taking his checked luggage was really the cause of him missing the last flight.

I've already looked into the cost of left luggage at LCY for my trip.

I've avoided that by having overnight gaps between my flights.

I was in the same position as you this time yesterday. It's very easy. Head to Expedia or eBookers and search for your flights originating and ending in Dublin and put your preferred carrier as VS and class as business. That's pretty much it!

In October, I set the departure date as Oct 2nd (even though I wanted to fly Oct 3rd) so I could get those legs out of the way the night before.

I'm flying to ORD and home from JFK for £1,150 in Upper. The flight from LCY to DUB was £60 and I'll book an airport hotel for £80. So, in total £1,250 per passenger. The VS price was around £2600.

As to searching I found google flight to be much easier and quicker than expedia to research options.

The options all came up much quicker and it was easy and quick to change starting point - dub to ams to cph to dub(*) - to get an idea of prices and options before then selecting specific flights etc.

(*) remember that DUB is the current flavour of the month for most ex-eu but it can and does change and it also depends on your destination so it is best to research as many options as possible and I just found google flights quicker and easier than expedia - which I did then use to make the actual booking.

Not a disaster at all. They're caused by external factors beyond one's control. This was caused by bad planning and bringing checked luggage when there was no need for it. Eejit! ii)

As part of VS's crackdown, what would their "punishment" be for missing the last sector, say MAN-DUB? :? ?|

What is the "crackdown" then ? If it relies on Virgin's IT department you are safe as houses I would imagine.
