suggestion for a new sub forum

As we seem to see people travelling to the same locations, it got me thinking about a sub forum named destinations - where people can ask about certain destinations, things to do, sites to see, etc.
I am currently in the final stages of planning my tour days for an upcoming trip & it would be nice if there was an easy way to look at other people's ideas, etc. from previous trips. I am going to need the experience of seasoned travellers about city layouts, etc. so I maximise my time & avoid criss-crossing a city trying to see things & take the opportunity for a quick iconic photo that I may walk straight past without knowing.... Ghostbusters HQ is a good example - as well as that famous church thing that is many films.
New York will be a good example of this - when there is so much to see (& do) but have no idea about queues, how long it takes to get from A to B, etc.

I was also thinking it would be a good idea having a sub-forum something along the lines of "Live from the Clubhouse"....Where he can have all the "Good morning from / Hello from..." threads

I have gained a wealth of knowledge from this site over the years relating to aircraft and airport information

. Sometimes you can pick up useful destination hints from v-flyers's 'trip reports' but more often than not I have to check out Trip Advisor. A sub section in the Toolbox giving information re locations, hotels and things to do, would certainly be helpful.
However not sure about the "hello from the clubhouse" though

Ditto what Hev said on both para's.

While I'm not totally against your idea, I think the reality is we've had similar things in the past that haven't really worked/been popular for whatever reason. We do already have the forum for discussions about any other non Virgin related travel which could be used for these sort of threads.
Personally I think V-Flyer is best when we focus on our core strengths of mainly VS related travel discussions. There are some excellent websites out there that and in reality Trip Advisor is always likely to have a greater range of information and we are never likely to be able to compete.

The idea was more about the destinations that VS fly to.
I don't use tripadvisor as the reviews are misleading.
For example, just look at the restaurant reviews for you local town & see if you agree with the top 10. I would trust the input from a member here than the input from tripadvisor.

Think this would be a good idea but don't know if Pete could set it up? Especially as you say to place like New York or California road trips, as Neil says we will probably have to make do with the sub forums.

We did use to have a reviews section for hotels, restaurants in various countries / cities but it just didn't take off the way we hoped. I *think* we also had a wiki style section for this sort of thing at some point a few years ago.
Pete is currently working on a new and improved version of the site, so it might be something for us to discuss once that is done.

Perhaps I'm odd (no comments on that are invited!) but I come here via the "view new posts" which means I don't visit a forum but all new posts. A new sub forum would be lost on me.

You're right, Neil.
It was on the old site and it never took off. However it was more a review section and given that Tripadvisor took off shortly afterwards, it just fell away and was discarded when we went on to the current site.
I do think that there is potential for a forum geared towards destinations. How often have people asked the same request about New York/Boston/San Francisco/Anywhereelseyouwouldcaretomention! Equally, others have asked for trip reports on trips not taken by air. I remember filing one about a cruise down the Mekong River when requested and when going off the beaten track of the more usual destinations, I have incorporated them in my trip reports to give others a flavour of possible destinations. I can think of my trip around South East Asia and my jaunt to South America including the Iguazzu Falls, Mendoza and an enforced trip to Santiago but we also spent a day on a guided tour through the pampas and gaucho country (reported on) as well as a day trip from Buenos Aires to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay which I may or may not have reported on simply because there wasn't a vehicle for it per se.
And what about V-Flyers who go on cruises and may have some information to impart about trips at the various ports of call?
So, yes, there is potential for such a forum

I'm certainly not adverse to the idea. Keeping it simple (because of the nature of the diversity of the posts), a simple sub-forum for Destinations could hold all those posts. If it proves popular, we call always add sub categories for continents and/or Virgin destination countries / cities.
