Why does it seem so difficult to research flight options from LHR to Cape Town? I know Virgin have stopped direct flights but SA Airways are a partner flying from Jo'burg to CT.
Does anyone know if the costs can be worked out without looking independently at the 2 parts?
Jo'burg to CT is quoted as VS8327 but finding a price and linking it to VS601 is murder (well almost)

What dates are you looking at?

VS are ending their codeshare service with SAA on September 27th this year so the VS flight numbers on SAA flights will cease from that point on.

The South African Airways codeshare ceases at the end of September so that may be why you are having trouble.

I travel to the western cape every year and have travelled with Virgin, BA and the gulf carriers. We managed to get a great deal with Emirates for Feb/Mar 2016. I prefer to fly with them via Dubai instead of two bookings with Virgin and South African in the absence a codeshare.

I can recommend both the Qatar and Emirates options from Heathrow in the premium classes.

I've chosen to earn Virgin America points with my Emirates flights next year instead of Emirates skywards miles. Means I can at least use them on another Virgin product in the future.

Thanks for the replies... we travel to CPT every year, either in November or March. I'm currently trying to research both options. Part of the problem is that we have bucket loads of Virgin Flying Miles, it's actually really hard to spend them.

Why not travel to Johannesburg with Virgin and get a budget airline connecting flight to Cape Town such as Kahula or Mango airlines. Thatsxwhatcwecare doing later this year.

Remember if you travel with those airlines to take the credit card you actually paid with. My credit card expired in the November and I flew with Mango in the February. As the card number was the same, I thought it would be ok but they insisted on seeing the original card used for purchase. I was allowed to travel with a warning for next time provided they could take a photocopy of my passport. All in the name of fraud protection!
