Subject says it all really. Will be flying back from Boston in Y to LHR with delta on a VS codeshare number.

Don't think I can use vs miles to upgrade but will I be able to look into paid upgrades at any point? Either via Web or on the day at check in?

The upgrade will all depend on the fare code on your ticket.
Some will fare codes are upgradeable, others will need to paid up to the upgradeable type, then you can pay / use miles + fee for an upgrade.....If you see what I mean
Use the ToolBox on V-flyer to check the ticket you have been issued.

You can't use VS miles to upgrade a sector on DL metal in any situation.

However, you can always offer to pay at the check-in desk.

My experience of DL tatl routes (especially since they're all flatbed now), however, is that J is always 100% full because of the fairly generous upgrade opportunities for certain DL elites.

DL does not always favour revenue upgrades over elite upgrades, so I think your chances are very slim, alas.
