Does anyone know if Virgin are ever likely to invest in any 747-800's?

Hi and welcome to the new look V-flyer.

Simply put, I very much doubt it. The 8I doesn't fit the desire for efficient 2-engined aircraft.

Comercially the 8I hasn't been a huge sales hit with only about 50 ordered, mostly by Lufthansa. More freight versions have been sold.

What a shame, I love flying on the 747, been using the 27/28 and 15/16 to MCO many times over the years, also the 43/44 to Vegas, won't be the same once they've gone although I hope they'll be around for a while yet :-)

I think there's more chance of them buying some space shuttles to be honest.

VS is downsizing its aircraft sizes across the fleet, and I fully expect the final LGW 747 replacement to be something like an A350-1000 rather than a 4 engined aircraft..

Possibly a 777X as if you can fly a 787, you can fly one of those. Not due to be in the worldwide fleets until 2018-2020
