We were due to fly to Mia at 12.35 now it's 16.45 and are still at Heathrow. Has anyone filed for compensation and were you successful?

If your arrival at MIA is more than three hours late you'll be entitled to €300 and if it's more than four hours it rises to €600 as long as the delay wasn't due to "extraordinary circumstances" (eg weather). Have you been told the reason for the delay?
Claiming from VS is pretty easy - see here:

Looks like the arrival will be well over 4 hours late, definitely get that claim in if it was technical!

I'm currently sitting in JFK clubhouse. Flight was supposed to leave about 10 mins ago...... Latest update is 2:10am
Should get compensation as other flights to lhr are running fine.
Going to miss m non refundable train home and will prob end up paying near £200 for new tickets. So may as well enjoy the free booze for the next @VirginAtlantic why is the vs11 from JFK delayed?3hrs or so......

Compensation is based in difference between scheduled time of ARRIVAL and actual time of ARRIVAL
What happens to other flights is neither here nor there.
Flights can and do make up time so don't go spending compensation you might not even get !

As tonty says its your ARRIVAL time at FINAL destination that counts & also the reason for the delay so dont count your chicken's etc.....
If an onward flight is booked on the same PNR & you miss that because of your delayed arrival time thens its the time delay on arrival at that destination that counts. Took us just 3 weeks to get the full €600 each plus 10k miles each for the inconvenience.

I want to say thank you to everyone. Due to this post i have been compensated £430 for a delayed flight i took in 2011. I had no idea i was entitled to anything until i read this forum. I did not expect the full 600 EU because when i checked on flightstats it said i was 3.5 hours late.
I don't fly much, i am just a regular old housewife, but i do like to be up on things.
Once again thanks.

Angie
