Would there be issues if my sport equipment bag, a 6 racquet tennis type bag, didn't contain sport equipment?
I guess I'm just trying to find a cheeky way of getting some extra baggage without paying ha!

I don't think it would be worth the risk. If they checked the contents of the bag, you would at the very least have to pay the going rate for extra baggage!

I've personally no experience or knowledge of this at all, but given they are quite specific on the website about what qualifies as free sports equipment I'd say that chances are high they would want to inspect the bag first.

Cheeky is one word for it. Dishonest is the one that comes to my mind for it.!

If you want extra baggage allowance then pay for it.

I carry dive gear to the Caribbean at least once a year and have never been asked for my dive certification card (I always carry it) or to open my bag. We usually only take one extra bag with us so if we are in economy we take a total of 3 cases - one each plus the dive gear.
