According to this link: https://www.virginamerica.com/cms/fly-with-us/vx-lounges/iad the lounge in Washington Dulles will be closed for a month over the period 24 Sep to 26 Oct.

As I happen to be flying out of Dulles at that time I rang the Upper Class support line to see what the arrangements were and it turns out that no one at Virgin Atlantic knew about the closure!

Does anyone have experience of what typically happens in this situation? Do they arrange for an alternative lounge?

hmm, unless they do a deal for entry to another airline's lounge there may be nothing, at LHR T1 on LR flights there used to be a 5 quid (i think) voucher for AU pax as alternative to the (distant) servisair

only been in the IAD CH once, it was pleasant enough though a bit worn, perhaps it's getting a quick spruce up?

That's what I was afraid of. I have PP and just this week the KLM - Air France lounge at gate A20 joined the scheme but that'll mean no clubhouse burger and no Virgin Redheads :(

Virgin got in touch to say, "During renovations we'll be offering customers the Etihad lounge Stuart. See http://www.etihad.com/en-us/experien...class-lounges/ … for what this offers"

If the menu is anything to go by this should be a great lounge.
