Purchase of airmiles

Hi All,

having tried in vain to arrange an upgrade to NYC, decided not to go ahead due to the apparent lack of value (a ticket rose by c.£500 per person when upgrading EC to UC).

Have now raided the clubcard voucher stash and got quite close to affording to miles + taxes UC tickets...

I'm looking at ways to bridge the final gap, and wandered if there is any market in people gifting their unwanted air miles for an appropriate fee?

Obviously would have to be a cheaper rate than you can purchase miles direct from Virgin to make the purchase worthwhile, but is there anyone out there looking to liquidate a balance of airmiles?

It is strictly against the terms of flying club to offer for sale to or from anyone else or to buy miles other than from VS

As Tonty says this is a No No. S9 of the T&C - here - http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/gb/en/fl ... fraud.html
- clearly say - 9.1 Flying Club Miles, membership and/or Rewards are void if sold, auctioned, bartered, purchased by any other method than through the Virgin Atlantic Airways Buy Miles (including Gift Miles and Transfer Miles) and Miles Booster options, defaced or altered. Such activity is prohibited and may result in denial of travel and/or redemption of the Reward and may also result in the cancellation of all accrued Miles, Rewards and Programme membership.

You will often see Flying Club accounts for sale on EBay and the like, but this is where the vendor sells their full account by giving the buyer their password and control of the account. This is clearly against the T&C and VS seem to proactively chase anyone involved in this practice.

Yep I thought it was not possible to do this. I paid for a friend to fly earlier this year, sorted out the flights myself and everything was done using my debit cards. I also joined them up to Flying Club. When we got back I asked about claiming the miles and transferring them to my account and even though I had paid the whole thing, Virgin would not allow me to do this.

Depending on your timescale, would the signup bonus from a Virgin credit card do the trick?

There is nothing stopping one person booking flights for another person using their FC account - using cash or their miles - like you did for your friend.

What isn't allows is any sort of advertising for the sale of accounts / miles.

And miles / TPs always get awarded to the person that flew not the person who paid for the flight and that is the same for all airline programmes.
