Transfer Time Advice

Hi,

Im travelling to vegas via JFK on the 6th Nov with an 1:45hr connection time in between. Ive not done an international to domestic connection before so am currently a bit wary of the time I have. I spoke to virgin and they advised me that the recommended minimum connection time is 1hour which through JFK I find hard to believe. My schedule is as follows:
  • VS045 Dep 14:35 LHR Arr 19:30 JFK
  • VS4811 Dep 18:45 JFK Arr 20:00 JFK

Since I have to go through immigration & customs, collect the bags from baggage reclaim and then recheck them with delta (as Virg said they are not ticketed the whole way through!) and then go back through US customs for the domestic flight! I am worried an hour and a half may not suffice. The lady on the phone advised there is a separate customs channel for connecting flights and that UC pax will be ushered?

If anyone can offer some advice so if necessary I can make Virgin change the flights?

Thanks!

This might not be much help - but I have a vague recollection of passengers being given a "quick transfer" voucher that permitted them to skip queues last time I transferred through JFK. Others might be able to advise though.

Even without it, I'd say that 1h 45m should be alright. Although saying that - could you double check the times you've posted? Your connection currently departs earlier than you arrive :P

Hi I travelled to Mco via jfk vs3 due to land 1150actual arrived at 1206 and made my 1330 departure .as above yes the is a priority lane if your departure is within 2hours of landing .so we skipped the long line. Collected bags straight through customs a dropped bags at delta just outside customs .then a buggy ride to other side of terminal then bus transfer to delta terminal

Can you check your schedule - isn't the VS45 on 6 Nov timed to arrive at 17.45 pm local time? And the VS4811 is scheduled for 19.26 according to Delta ...

VS045 Dep 14:35 LHR Arr 19:30 JFK
VS4811 Dep 18:45 JFK Arr 20:00 JFK

Otherwise on your times above you'd definitely miss the connection ;-) .

As others have said, you should be fine, same terminal, option for fast track immigration, the luggage is never to slow and you can recheck your bags immediately after customs. Your bags may well be checked through, but since JFK is your first port of call in the US you have to accompany them through customs and then recheck them.

Since this is also above the minimum connection time, VS has no onus on them to change your flight.

factor in a change off terminals.
i am guessing international & domestic are different terminals.

Fortunately no need for a terminal change by the looks of it. The VS4811 on Nov 6th departs from T4.

Thanks guys for input - yes departs from same terminal yet bags are not ticketed. I suppose given how hot TSA is on screening baggage coming in internationally that's understandable but a bit annoying!
