Such an iconic aircraft. I was fortunate enough to have a final fight on HOT just before Christmas. There's no other aircraft that quite matches it in my opinion.

I wonder who will be be the last commercial operator of the 747 worldwide.

It'll take BA quite some time to phase out their newer ones. I guess the LH 748's will be around for quite a few years to come too.

BA still have 40 747's in their fleet. They'll still be around at LHR for many years to come...

I've been on BIG eight times in the last five years and VROC also eight times, mostly SFO and NY rotations but on VROC on the infamous party bus to launch the Cancun route. A sad day for VS at Heathrow since from day one Virgin has flown 747s and with the new smaller airline there's nothing quite as majestic to replace them.

Wow, I had no idea that they were going/gone :-( but then I've not flown with VS out of LHR for over a year now. Some of my best flights ever were in the A zone (seat 19A for preference ;-) ), and the amount of aisle space that you got was incredible.

A sad loss. Makes me all the more glad I'm getting to do it at least once more from LGW this Easter...
