Looks like yesterday's flight to Shanghai had to land at Beijing. Back in the air now but 7-8 hrs behind schedule.

Looks like it was down to poor weather. Perhaps they couldn't land in all the smog..!

Just seen on virgin website that it was diverted due to bad weather. Wonder why Finnair AY057 HEL-PVG, which flies a very similar track and arrives PVG around the same time as VS250, wasn't diverted. Same for the BA169 which leaves LHR 30 mins after Virgin

All to do with exact timings into Shanghai airspace -- from 09.00 visibility dropped [heavy fog/low cloud/smog] to less than 1 kilometre, between 10.00 and 11.00 Hongqiao suspended all landings/takeoff with visibility down to 200 metres, Pudong diverted and delayed aircraft as necessary, VS250 probably arrived when weather was at its worst...............
