Can I use Virgin miles to book Delta flight?

Hi all,

I am trying to book a trip to Vegas but currently there is no reward seat available on my preferred date. So I am thinking of flying to LA instead and then get a Delta connection LA - Vegas. On the Delta website the cash price for the connection is $151 or $5.60 and 20000 miles. Just wondering can I use my Virgin miles to book that flight and would it be 20000 Virgin miles or is the conversion from Delta to Virgin miles different?

It's different.

The table is here: http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/gb/en/fl ... lines.html
Look under the spend miles section and you'll find
Within Continental USA, Alaska & Canada 25,000 45,000

First number is economy, second is business.

You'll need to call Flying Club to book.

Edit: Should have mentioned those are the numbers for return not just a single.

You can use your VS miles but you'd have to call VS to do the booking. According to the DL page on the VS website an internal economy flight on DL is 25k round trip + fees etc The T&Cs say that one way rewards aren't permitted

Virgin America (code VX to avoid confusion) might be an option for you. They fly LAX-LAS (though it's not listed on the partners page on the VS website as an eligible route using miles it's not unusual for the web site not to have all the latest combinations)

Again you'd have to phone VS to book.

A further alternative might be to go via SFO

Thanks both for the super quick replies! I have never seen that section of the Virgin website before so will be sure to refer to it in the future. Shame one-ways on Delta aren't allowed as that's all I wanted.

Thanks for the Virgin America tip too - I shall ring FC and see LAX - LAS is permitted route and if they have availability. I had seen a cash fare but it was a bit more than I wanted to spend.

I had checked SFO - LAS but saw that at least on Delta that there is a connection at LAX so didn't fancy that. Just on hold to VS now to check the VX availability for that route. I should be in bed.... 8-)

I didn't know that this could be done. I rang the FC and was told that Delta flights couldn't be booked using Virgin miles. I directed them to the relevant section of the website and was still told no. I rang back again in ten minutes and spoke to a different colleague who immediately said it was possible!

On checking my dates the outward from ATL-MCO are not available for miles but there's plenty on the return. She's advised me to ring back in a few days. Is the price likely to increase if I wait? At the moment booking direct with Delta I'm looking around £786 for three adults - quite steep I thought but given it's Christmas?

Glad my post has helped you out too. I have spoken to 4 different people in the last 2 days, all having different levels of knowledge. I thought it was because I was ringing late at night but rang again this evening and got someone who was on the ball.

Alas, none of the internal flights on VX that I wanted using miles were available, so I've bitten the bullet and bought the cash fare.

Good luck!

for the $151/£100 - I think I would pay that & not waste 25,000 miles!

Agree Eggtastico! In the end with seats rapidly disappearing I made the following booking yesterday:

LHR-SFO PE reward
SFO-LAS cash (£128) I expect it'll be around £18 to check a bag.
LAS-LGW EC reward

Keeping an eye out for last minute PE availability on the return flight ;-)

Shame the Tesco conversion hasn't happened yet, had to do last minute Amex MR transfer. I also had a EC>PE upgrade voucher that ran out about 10 days ago which I couldn't use >-(

It might be too late, but if tier points are a consideration, there are 3 in each direction up for grabs in first class (On Delta), 6 in total.
