V-Flyer

Hi,

I will be flying LGW - MCO UC in September with my 17 month child. Worried/nervous about the long flight with the infant, but those on here suggested UC was the best place for her.

Anyway. Was wondering if there is anything for the child to do in the Clubhouse at Gatwick? I remember a bit of a kids area in the Heathrow one. We'll be overnighting at gatwick the night before, so wondered what would be best to do.

Also, Anyone have the LGW clubhouse menu? Doesn't seem to work on the VA site.

Hi, yes there is a nice little playroom at gatwick clubhouse. Tucked around the corner and fairly soundproofed with a tv and lots of toys and a rather nice magnetic wall feature. The glass wall is handy as parents can sit outside and watch easily. Used it many times. Always quiet when I have been there no more than one other family. Staff in the clubhouse also very friendly with the children.

Echo what has already been said - the Gatwick Clubhouse has (IMHO) a far better play area for the little ones.

One thing to help your apprehension is to take lots of favourite toys/books/ visual aids to keep the little one occupied throughout the journey. It will not only keep her occupied, but take your mind off any stress.

Has anyone got a copy of the clubhouse menu?

We have flown many times with our son both short haul and long in various cabins, since he was 9 months old (he is now about to turn 8!)
Best be prepared with lots of new small toys and snacks - 1 an hour in my experience is good. Might also be useful to have a lolly or dummy (if you are using one) handy for landing/take off as it can hurt their little ears.

Hopefully he/she will sleep for a while so you and your partner can relax too and enjoy the surroundings/bar ;)

Our son now just wants to be left alone on flights so he can watch tv/ipad to his hearts content - not normally allowed at home.

I just want to echo this. Our son is now 17 and we've travelled since he was 0! New bits to play with is a great one (don't be tempted to give them beforehand, keep them for the flight), most of all, go with the mentality that you will have a great flight and everything will be fine.

There is somewhere on here, a really great TR for travelling with kids, I will try and dig it out.....
