I hope I've got this right, I have not checked the tier point requirements for a long time, but I believe the 12-13 months requirement to reach silver was always a rolling year, but the 40 point requirement to reach gold was a fixed year?

Thinking about this --- is it maintaining gold that is fixed, whilst maintaining silver remains rolling?

I'm not actually sure about Silver... but when you hit Gold you effectively start a new membership year, TPs go back to zero and you have 12-13 months to obtain the 40 needed for renewal. As far as Silver goes, I don't remember my TPs ever resetting - I suspect it just needs to be above 15 at the renewal point.

I thought it had always been a rolling 12-13mths too - for both Silver & Gold.

Whilst I have never hit Gold, I am currently Silver. Before my trip in December I had 10TP's, so the outbound UC flight made me hit Silver. My account now shows TP's in current membership year as 5, i.e. the TP's from the inbound UC flight.

If Gold actively resets to zero as soon as you hit 40TP's, then there are going to be some passengers (possibly some on here!) who will re-qualify for Gold in a matter of months. All those extra TP's are noted though & when you hit certain levels there are perks, or the ultimate holy grail...

Always a confusion issue this one, whilst silver keeps on rolling allowing each flight to top back up to the silver requirement [15 point] or allowing you to reach gold within said rolling 12-13 months --- in theory making reaching gold a rolling 12-13 months also ------ however once gold is reached it then stops rolling and becomes a fixed 12-13 month membership period as per this on the VS website.

Ah, so taking no flights in months 1-11, then enough to get gold in months 12,13&14 would see you drop to silver? That would bring it more in line with BA's fixed date membership years, though on BA, if you get gold in month 1, you stay gold until month 24, dropping to silver in month 25 (if no activity)

Yes, you would originally drop to silver but then you'll hit gold in a couple of months.

It's currently happening to me and I don't really understand it but I'm finding it weird having only 10 TP's in my membership year, but I'll hit gold in 3 weeks because of 3 TPs from an M fare. I've been silver for about 3 months.
