Purple Parking/Upper Class wing, Who gets the extra money?

We were going to book Purple Parking through Flying Club(5% off) and for Meet & Greet for our 6 weeks it was £116. Great value. However we decided to use Purple Parking for going through the upper class wing and so you have to phone the UC help line to book that. So to use Purple Parking meeting us at the UCW and taking our car from there, and with the normal meet & greet on return, we were quoted a penny short of £200. Who gets this extra £84?

Needless to say we didn't bother.

I've used Purple parking Meet and Greet for 5 years. Always get quote through the Virgin link as you get 500 miles and it always seems cheaper than their website, even with sales that they push by email a lot.

PP used to be happy to drive you round to the DTCI wing in your own car. Now for 750 miles you can do this officially - at a cost! :-O

We've booked PP M&G for £115 for 17 days in April. DTCI M&G was £195 - no thanks. Your £116 for 6 weeks is an amazing deal.
Don't think many will take up the more expensive option?

DTCI is amazing. However, is it worth £84 more than handing your car to PP at T3 drop-off and heading up to the private security in the fancy lift? No.

I hope VS get this message sooner rather than later.

If people are paying it - and I bet they are - why should they?

We like DTCI also. On our last trip DTCI wasn't operational which initially disappointed me but the standard check in was of course fine. Off on a VS flight next Friday, expecting DTCI will be operational but certainly wouldnt pay an extra £80+ for the PP option.

simples. You have an upperclass ticket, therefore deemed to be able to pay more than the sheep in the back of the plane.

Of all the UC benefits the DTCI is probably the least important to me. The extra cost to get PP M&G from the Wing rather than the adjacent short stay car park just doesn't add up. The short walk into T3 Departures from the short stay car park is the easiest £84 saving ever :-)

I would certainly use it if I was arriving at LHR by taxi or being dropped off by friends and family.

I wouldn't use it for that premium. When we started being able to afford UC I decided that I'd opt for a taxi to and from the airport as I used to dread getting in the car after a flight...

I always book my PP through them direct. Does anyone know if the method below is still valid?

I used Purple Parking Meet and Greet service. I arranged DTCI with Upper Class support and rang PP in the morning to advise that I wanted to use DTCI, they said absolutely fine but they needed a time so a chap could meet me in the Valet lane of the drop off zone (lane closest to the short stay car park). I said 1pm and as I swung into the last lane at T3, a chap flagged me down and he jumped in the passenger seat as I drove round to DTCI.

Smooth ride around the block and into the DTCI where I was in the Clubhouse maybe 10 mins after giving my keys to the PP chap.

On the return, I went to Revivals and had breakfast before walking over to the short stay car park (the walk bridge is helpfully on the same level as Revivals!) to pick up my car.

All in all very easy. Especially as I got around 1000 miles by booking PP via the Shops Away website.

Can't say for sure, but I doubt it. Presumably part of the agreement with VS on this would be to stop this happening.

I've pinged PP an email to see if I can do it on a booking I have for later this month. Let's see what they say.

Just want to confirm, my previous method is no longer valid.

Their guys are now on the 1st floor of the Short Stay and won't come down to meet you in the drop off lanes so no more looping around in your own car. About two months ago I did the PP+UC DTCI and it was only £1 more expensive but I did book very late so I guess the advance savings with PP directly would benefit more.

It is interesting, thanks for the replies. No, we aren't going to pay that extra. We are actually staying at the Premier Inn Bath Road and the PP long stay parking is just next door. Someone kindly mentioned it to me on another thread. So we have booked dropping the car off there and meet and greet when we arrive back. 6 weeks for £103. A little bit cheaper for our dropping the car off rather than them meeting us. This is through the Flying Club website so supposedly has 5% discount. We will then get a taxi to the terminal.

A reminder that you can still use DTCI with a private taxi.

I never did get a response from PP. I phoned VS who explained that the only way you can go DTCI with PP is to book through VS now. My existing price is 103.86 and VS quoted me 139.36, so that's 36 quid extra for the privilege.

oh and just to add, even though this page says "...all parking" and "...10%", "...all" is not all and does not apply to DTCI parking...

Do you have to phone ahead to let them know the taxi's number plate?

Well you were quoted cheaper than we were for DTCI with PP then. Still very annoying to be charged that extra.

Well I guess that shows a small part of the extra amount, but not the whole.
