Air train terminal transfer at JFK

Hi would appreciate any advice please.

After our holiday in Florida at the end of March, we are travelling from Sarasota airport on Jet Blue into JFK. We arrive at terminal 5 and then need to transfer to T4 for our VS flight home.

Any tips on how easy this transfer is? Does the terminal train go around in both directions or would we need to catch it at T5 then wait until it finally stops round at T4?

I remember vaguely getting the train after a BA flight into JFK and needing to get round to the JetBlue terminal. We cleared immigration, picked up luggage and then I think we went upstairs by a lift to the station platform but then I can recall nearly getting on a normal train by mistake! Oops

Any advice, directions etc would be most welcome,

Thanks. Hev

It's very easy - the AirTrain runs in both directions but make sure you catch the right one as the info screens on the platforms can be a bit confusing. You want the one that runs in a loop round the terminals, NOT the one that goes to Jamaica or Howard Beach.

Just be aware it's quite a long walk from T5 to its AirTrain station, though helped by moving walkways (which may or may not be working). It's clearly signed from arrivals but once you emerge landside you basically need to bear right and head upstairs.

There's a useful map here: https://www.panynj.gov/airports/pdf/jfk ... in-map.pdf
