V-Flyer

Like everyone on this Forum always says - 'just keep checking' and this I have been doing for 3 months, at least twice a day.

on my 3rd check today , lo and behold a handful of G's turn up for end of Dec. but nothing for the returns in Jan 2017. so... like many on here.... I have taken a leap of faith and booked our outward flights..... now the hunt is on for returns. We don't mind PE on the way home so at least our choice is widened.

Now I have to book our BA flights down from MAN and onward flights from JNB to CPT - how I wish VS had kept that CPT route . But my head tells me to wait a bit until I have return dates as singles when paying cash are not economical.

so .... patience is the name of the game.

and I thought I was panicking about nothing showing for March 2017 returns from MCO.

Don't forget if you have any avios, look out for comair flights from Jnb to Cpt. We did that last December and had a great flight in club. The slow lounge at Jnb is nice as well.

Thanx pmramsay. i do have some Avios but maybe not enough. but time enough to concentrate on earning a few.!

so hours passed..... days passed and a week passed.... tapping my fingers on the tabletop didn't help .... so what did we do ? Booked G's from Dubai of course then thought, how shall we fly from CPT to DXB (never been to Dubai) via Mauritius sounds fun !

Virgin Atlantic you have a lot to answer for ! we now fly from CPT, via JNB to MRU ... stay a week in what looks like a nice apartment (not an ideal time for Mauritius as it will be very humid and we may get to witness the odd cyclone - exciting ! ) then Emirates (Biz) to DXB (first timers) after 3 nights we FINALLY get our G's to LHR then LHR to MAN.

we are away for 4 weeks so 8 flights doesn't sound too bad when they are all (mostly except LHR -MAN-LHR ) business or UC.

and if VS had released their G's from JNB to LHR sooner we would never have dreamed of Mauritius and probably not bothered with Dubai.

Fate ? nah ..... impatience Lol !

I was considering flying back from the states to MAN because there are loads of reward seats, but then checked on a BA flight down to Heathrow.
£55 per person, but £65 per case and only 23Kilo at that. We'll have 4 cases each likely to be just over that.

no, dickydotcom - I went direct to BA and booked the slightly more expensive £56 each way flights (Economy Plus ) which include the 23kg hold allowance. We travel fairly light, even for a month away as at least two of our bases have washing machines, so hand luggage + 23kg is more than we will probably need.

Dicky if the BA flight is on the same ticket / PNR then you'll get the VS bag allowance (longest sector rule) but not if they are separate tickets.

Apparently both BA and VS are being strict about not checking bags through unless they are on the same ticket / PNR

Good point tontybear. we have done this regime before and as we were claiming our bags at LHR we also took the time to visit Revivals for a shower, food etc then trundled back in for the Shuttle. travelling light certainly helps. Last year we did around 12kg each for a month away. !

Sorry: 12 kg each for a month. that's just not right. I think we are doing well only using 50g each or our 96kg allowance for a month way.
We do rent an apartment and we do using the washing machine but 12kg sorry no way.
