Club house

Only 7 weeks to my first ever club house and upper class experience. What is the etiquette with tipping in the club house for drinks and the salon. Don't want to offend or upset people if I do or don't. Thanks

I've never done it myself. Sometimes I think that I could perhaps give a fiver to the guy who does my hair but then I always wind up forgetting. I don't think they expect it so there's no sour feelings if you don't!

It certainly isn't expected but if you feel the service warrants it then feel free.

I've never tipped the staff providing drinks and food service, but usually give whoever does my hair a fiver or tenner (even though it's not exactly a challenging job in my case). I guess this is in part because you may be served drinks and food by several people, but only one person does your hair so it seems more personal and identifiable. That's my story and I am sticking with it.

I have seen a couple of times when staff have refused tips saying that they aren't allowed to accept them, and I know this was policy a few years ago when I knew someone who worked there, so unless things have changed? This was LHR.

I've not tipped here, but in the States it is expected. To the point that in the Delta lounge at Orlando they have the odd dollar bill tucked into the bar counter. I have know the barman to bring my drinks and put them down 4 ft away from me, but next to a dollar bill.
I've not tipped there either.

I left the JFK clubhouse staff $10 at the weekend, but they made no attempt to push it on me as per Dicky's post... I just asked them if they had a tip jar!

I always tip the lady who does my hair at the JFK CH. She has been doing my hair for about four years now. That is it.

I would have been inclined to pick up the Dollar bill and thank him for letting me know I'd dropped it there.

I tip, but I won't be pushed, particularly by American's, sorry if that offends, but service is rewarded and I will never be made awkward at doing so.

I'm exactly the same and detest their attitude in there.

As for the LHR CH, I also tip when I have a hair cut but not for anything else. Last time the hairdresser was enthusing about his upcoming NYC trip so I left him $20... Mainly as that was the smallest bill of any currency in my wallet.

What annoys me most is the % creep

Bills in restaurants used to 'suggest' something like 12.5 / 15 / 18% but it seems that 18% is now the minimum and in some places it's 20%!

I have never tipped in a VS clubhouse or other airline lounge anywhere..

And that reminds me why I love Australia...reason 1, 645, 983

No tipping culture. I gave the driver more than the required fare for my taxi to Adelaide airport in February. He took the money and tried to return the extra (not because it wasn't enough Tonty!!) and then, when I insisted, he said "are you sure?"
